Too far north for me but September can be a superb time of year for boating. Hopefully you get nice weather. Probably worth getting some wood sorted out for the fire assuming you have one.

what do you want out of it.

Hi all ..got a 6 night cruise coming up in sept .from preston brook ..any route ideas and tips ..mooring etc ...cheers I hear The Bridgewater is nice that time of year! Trip through Cheshire countryside, couple of nights in Manchester. Through to Leigh probably won't make Liverpool. You will even be able to get home without someone extorting forty quid out of you! Or you could go the other way to Anderton and down the lift onto The River Weaver. Lovely along there too. If you do the Bridgewater, enjoy it. it's a beautiful canal

I loved it at grindley brook, one of the most picturesque spots I've been, up the staircase, have lunch further along then turn and go back again!

I loved it at grindley brook, one of the most picturesque spots I've been, up the staircase, have lunch further along then turn and go back again! I grounded the boat at Grindley Brook. A knowledgeable lock keeper helped me out and when I mentioned I thought there was something wedged in a gate he ignored it and he proceeded to ground the next boat ! I remember vicious bywash there as well. That was 1999/2000 so things may have changed since then.

Church Minshull you'll do in 2 days easy. Tunnels are ok just take it easy.Manchester though is safe as houses. Very trendy and all camera'd up so very little trouble.
Some nice folks moored in Castlefield too so they'll keep an eye on things

we stayed in castlefield for two nights. everyone was friendly enough. we really enjoyed it.
The museum of science and industry is well worth a look. 3 generations of my family really enjoyed it and it was about a two minute walk from where we moored.

Middlewich bell ringing Tuesdays, Nantwich bell ringing Thursdays. The Black Lion pub and The Vine pub in Nantwich - I recommend.
