The thing is I think we all rather liked Cotswoldsman. He took it all on the chin with good humour and ne'er a vicious insult, so I think we were all prepared to listen to his views. Even though people are sometimes vastly different, it's what makes the world go round. I'm not sure at all if people's opinions and perceptions are ever changed in conversations. They may say 'Yes, I see your point' but they invariably go back to their position 1. A lot depends on where we were born, our parents and upbringing, our schools and school mates, our travel and work experiences. Have I changed during 55 years? I still hold my basic beliefs and assumptions, which are probably hardwired into my brain (if I have one, mjg suggests I haven't one!) (my head hasn't been scanned yet, so he might indeed be correct). However, my experiences have taught me, such as PaulG2 says, that appearances can be deceptive - I too have met many 'hard-looking types' with tattoos and rings through every orifice yet they have been perfectly mannered and helpful. When I talk about genetics and 'racism' I would like to suggest that natural evolution was not prepared for the invention of the jet engine and genes to be circulated around this globe at the speed of 600 miles per hour. The key to the future of the human species lies in genetic control, and those who own the genetic laboratories are the 'rich white Europeans'. As they are heavily in debt to the Saudi Arabians because of their addiction to gasoline, perhaps it's actually the Arabs who will dictate the course of humans? Ha Ha Ha I enjoyed that

Instead of just saying "You're a racist!", how about trying to work out the reasons why someone is a perceived racist? If you want some quality debate, you're probably not going to get it by posting xenophobic videos and pictures....

Which xenophobic pics and vids would those be? The punch-up in the South African Parliament happened when I wasn't there to encourage it, and the Brierfield march happened without me too. I have no phobia about foreigners or strangers - but I don't mind showing how bizarre some of them can be. I've been living with foreigners half my life - doesn't mean to say I can't take this piss out of them.

If someone willing to work for fraction of your salary, and has no morgage or family expenses in the UK, and is willing to work in unsafe conditions, then who are the company going to employ ?

If someone willing to work for fraction of your salary, and has no morgage or family expenses in the UK, and is willing to work in unsafe conditions, then who are the company going to employ ? That's the problem with the whole damn open borders thing. Wages are directly affected by the laws of supply and demand. There's no getting around that! Here's another aspect to consider. If I'm a multi-national corporation doing business in the UK, I am protected by the laws of the UK and I get to use the infrastructure that generations of UK taxpayers have provided for me. What's really cool, though, is that I get to use all this modern UK stuff but I can bring in workers from economically depressed countries and pay them peanuts compared to what I would have to pay a Brit. A side benefit of this is that it drives down wages for everyone in the UK, which, of course, further benefits me and my multi-national buddies. Now, consider if the EU was divided and individual countries classified according to certain economic criteria. For those developed countries like France, The UK, Sweden, etc. there would be complete freedom of movement. However, tier two and tier three countries would have their movement limited to within countries of a same or lesser rating. What this would do is force people in the less developed countries to stay home and develop their countries, and it would mean that the multi-nationals that wanted cheap labor would have to move their factories to the less developed countries. This would result in meaningful development in the developing countries, and that would mean that all of the people in those countries would be better off. If the EU were really serious about doing what is right for all its citizens, it would also immediately block all imports from China, as should the US. China has abused and manipulated the currency and trade business for too many years now. The Western world took China from a backwater country to a thriving economic powerhouse. It's time to tell them adieu, enough is enough. You do your thing in Asia, and leave the West alone. That really is the only fair thing to do for Western workers. China long ago declared economic war on the Western middle class. It's time we realized that, and started fighting back.

Paul, you have put it all in a nutshell. I've long thought to myself " what do these less developed countries bring to the table? not a lot other than a pool of cheap labour." Phil
