Never been in. The place looks derelict from the outside, and was indeed flooded, but I believe it has re-opened despite appearances. When I did enquire about it amongst the Puzzlers, there was a curious reluctance to talk about it. As the new brewpub, the Hogshead, is not really to my liking, being large, trendy and poorly lit (although I can't fault the beer), I may give the Long Chimney a try, as I'm old and apparently harmless enough not to invite aggression.

I don't know what it's like over there, but the under 30 crowd here are very deferential towards us codgers, almost to the point of being protective. What's funny is that it seems the more piercings and tattoos they have, the politer they are.

Well I haven't exactly met deference, but I agree that appearance is very little guide to a person's character or behaviour.
