You be the judge.... I pick the hotest day in August to make a full on Roast Pulled Pork dinner with homemade apple & sage stuffing, garlic roast potatoes, & baby carrots & peas. Then because I didn't think the boat would be hot enough doing the above, I thought I should make a Pear, Apple & Blackberry crumble for pudding as well!! The oven went on at 13:00 and was turned off @ 19:30 Needless to say we ate lafresco on the front deck - and the dishes will have to wait till the morning to get washed. OH - did I mention, we are moored less than 30 yards from the Blackhorse, which we've heard quite good food reviews about!!!!

Personally, I think anyone who thinks pork and apples go together has lost the plot. Similarly ham and pineapples. What's that all about? Meat goes with mustard or horseradish sauce, fruit goes with cream or custard. Simples.

The acidity of the apples helps digestion of the fatty meat (as well as tasting nice) - simples.

+4 Centigrade this morning (Monday morning 6am). Rather chilly. Fan heater and block heater on in car 0530-0600.

How do you feel about a Maple, honey & mustard glaze on a roasted Gammon joint? or a Cranberry & sausage stuffing for a roast Turkey?

Oh....I forgot to add I haven't been able to find my ice cube tray and had a hankering for a tall glass of Pimms, so I put the mix in the fridge to chill. After waiting about an hour, I asked Dave to mix me a drink. Out he comes with a tall glass of Pimms, mix, sliced lemon, sliced pear, fresh mint and FROZEN STRAWBERRIES (which he bought yesterday at the market and put a dozen of them in a small tub with a little water, in the freezer this morning, knowing it would be a hot day and thinking I'd enjoy a cold Pimms at some time in the afternoon) it was soooooo good & ICE cold, I had to have another 3 What a good hubby I have, lucky me

Well, the first concept I could handle, but then none of those things are fruits. As for the second thing, no, absolutely not. Sausage maybe, but cranberries? I don't mind fruit, in its place, but turkey is gross enough on its own, that's why nobody ever eats it other than at Christmas, and smothering it with cranberry sauce doesn't make it any less disgusting.

The Black Horse just up from Giffard Park is a lovely looking pub, but they wanted to charge me £5 for one pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord (I say wanted to because of course I didn't buy it).
The menu was okay, but extraordinarily expensive for pub food.
I am certain your meal, and evening, was greatly improved by NOT visiting the Black Horse.
The Pimms sounded jolly good too.
