I couldn't help thinking that someone's girlfriend has got a bit fed up with the usual 'meat and 2 veg' and has gone for something 'fruitier' !
(sorry, poor joke, but Jim has been wielding his influence)

(sorry, poor joke, but Jim has been wielding his influence) Well, interesting developments there. Spoke to her today on the phone. Now, she is a very prescient girl, (or maybe she just monitors Thunderboat on the quiet ) but she's obviously twigged that something's up because she now tells me she is thinking of renting her house out and buying a narrowboat herself, she asked me to send her a full breakdown of running costs etc, which I've done. She does enjoy boating although personally I don't think she's resilient enough to cope with Winter as a liveaboard. I can but wait and see. I have been with her a long time, but it isn't working out with me living so far away.

Lingonberry jam and blood pancakes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingonberry_jamWhen I was in Finland for my husky safari one night I'd bin made designated cook...cooking and me not like bread n butter or strawberries and cream... My first course of reindeer stew lacked the essential butter n salt...I'd tried to serve 'healthy option' Our guide promptly put small pancakes in pan of bubbling butter with cheese exploding out their innards...this was served with lingonberry jam and spray cream...

Narrowboating even for us in a boat that leaks air from every window, in Winter, isn't really a hardship - just have the stove on all the time. OK, so the ash has to be emptied every few hours. I like a simple life, candlelight and hot water bottles. We have no TV on the boat but why miss that - it's just re-runs of House and the bloody Simpsons here in Finland every day. Local cinemas can be good.

The Black Horse just up from Giffard Park is a lovely looking pub, but they wanted to charge me £5 for one pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord (I say wanted to because of course I didn't buy it). The menu was okay, but extraordinarily expensive for pub food. I am certain your meal, and evening, was greatly improved by NOT visiting the Black Horse. The Pimms sounded jolly good too. Rog £5 a pint?! We used to use the Black Horse a fair bit pre dwarf and house move <2010 I think the last time we were there was April 2011, sounds like I'll need to squirrel some cash away for the next time we are passing!

I declined their Timothy Taylor and had Doombar (I know) instead which was a snip at £3.80.
Have to say I much prefer the Nags Head at Great Linford, which is only half a mile or so away. We had a meal in there. Simple but home made and good snap, and the beers were good and all around the £3.30 mark.
Not full of ten bob millionaires either.
