Little brown babies starve to death in Africa every day. I don't give a fuck about somebody prepared to hand over a million quid for a houseboat when 30 minutes of internet research would have told them they wouldn't be able to legally live on it. First world problems, eh?

Poor little rich people. And anyone who wears sunglasses like that is a bit 'iffy' for starters.

They will apparently get their money back. Result. Unless the seller suddenly disappears which judging by his name may not be impossible !
I know the area well. Its not that nice really - its amazing how much they apparently paid !
There is a very nice big dutch barge there - a real nice one - on a bankside mooring hidden behind the new houseboat pontoons. I wonder if that is Mr Djurberg's boat?
Its a big (30m+) Luxemotor and very very nicely turned out but not something you could sneak away in of an evening and disappear.

generally seems to be a sensible (for once) article about living on a boat in London today (Yeah I know it's only one type of boat living ..... but still it helps counteract some of the rose tinted spectacle versions we have been seeing in the press over the last few years)

Living on those barges is an option - one welcomed, as the article admits, by many of the inhabitants. It wouldn't be my choice; in similar situations I have preferred to spend nothing at all, and camp rough in abandoned coal cellars at the back of the Gloucester Road tube station, which I did for some 5 months one winter, while working as an unskilled factory worker out of an Earl's Court temp agency. Saved enough money to go off travelling in the middle east on my Bickerton for the next 6 months.
I can still see the appeal of the option for some though.
The owner fitted out one of these 'barges' below Thames Locks at Brentford some years ago, and was illegally served s.8 Notices by CaRT. Various authorities are ramping up the pressure on his boats, which do get moved every fortnight these days.
Meanwhile, back in Brentford, remaining houseboat owners alongside Watermans Park have sat through a 10 day trial in Central London County Court, being sued by Hounslow Council on unclear grounds [essentially for 'trespass', though not pursued as such, because they have no standing to do so]. It will go against the boaters regardless.
Shame is that the Council are only now belatedly applying for relevant byelaws - as they should have done decades ago - which would have enabled them to control their riverfront without such questionable proceedings. They are in a hurry, though, because they want the riverside cleansed to enable a £5 million plus 'marina' to be installed, to be filled with 'appropriate' luxury houseboats, owned by such as can afford the projected hefty fees proposed.

Will the waterman centre survive? We had a very nice not expensive Indian meal there recently and as it was low tide (I moored above Thames locks to wait for the tide for teddington) we watched the beautiful egrets pecking for food in the river mud. Really nice place. Opposite the island with all the Heron nests. I recommend it to anyone who is in Brentford with some spare time. Its a really nice relaxing place. Looks ready for demolition though We've been there before and if in future wee have a couple of hours to spare while waiting for the tide then will definitely go again if its still there. www.watermans.org.uk

Will the waterman centre survive? No. There are plans to relocate it within Ballymore's town centre development, with the current site ear-marked for yet more housing development.
