I have been informed that The Canal & River Trust have obtained permission from DEFRA to restrict access to a section of towpath at Stoke Bruerne for the duration of the event. Pedestrian access on 9th & 10th September will be restricted by the charging of admission to attend the Village at War event. Wristbands will be available to purchase from checkpoints on the towpath and around the village. Admission charges are £7.50 per adult.

We were thinking of going there this weekend in the past its been a great time, I am sure I was charged last time? but with age memories grow vague In previous years, an option has been in place that allows you to decide if you wish to donate. You could walk past the kiosk and not pay. This year, it's being promoted as an "admission fee". So Joe public not only fund a grant for the trust, but are now expected to pay again to use the towpath. A boat owner will pay three times. All to help fund a museum that sells pencil sharpeners, and rubber pens.

HOld on...you mean if we are up near Stoke Bruerne (which we aren't all that far away) and want to go for a walk up the towpath say to one of the pubs/restaurants we'll have to pay £7.50 each on top of our bar/restaurant bill?? or have I misunderstood the OP? Can they legally close a portion of the tow path for an event &/or charge for it's use? In my mind I already pay to use the towpath, as do all other boaters who have a CRT license. We are actually planning on going up to SB; but thankfully it isn't for another 3 weeks. Does snyone know if the forge near the tunnel enterance is still in operation?
