Well then clearly you are wrong because I am not a thicko and I did go to a proper school. You obviously are a thicko and you obviously didn't go to a proper school if you believe that proper nouns should not be capitalised where the object or entity in question is fictional, otherwise Sherlock Holmes would be spelled with lowercase letters. I thought Sherlock was a name.

Most of the crashing I have seen is with old working boats not being able to wind the throttle back fast enough on those wheel things, I have had a go on one a few years ago and I struggled with it it, I suppose with practice I would be ok but they arnt for me Magnet man andys post that I quoted and replied to was a reply to this post by Peter. Maybe you can understand now. Yes kris I have read all the comments. I know that some old (and some new) boats have different controls. The idea is that you take this into account when steering the boat. I would understand someone hitting a lock gate hard if they were not used to the boat but after a day or two most people would be able to deal with it. Its not about gear linkages its about boater attitude.

Why do they call it Greek mythology, and then give telemachus a capital T? I don't think any of us believe in Greek mythological figures do we? I suspect strongly that on this occasion Mr Stabby has pretty much nailed it, and our resident boffin with an 'ology' is struggling to just say "Actually you're probably right". But perhaps he doesn't believe in apologies Rog

This thread is wafting in and out of topic...small t...Topic with a capital T..I don't like.. Mars, I also do not like...ah...where were we? I do like this topic even if I don't like Topic... It's interesting picking out the different subjects that seep in and deciding which to respond to.

How fortunate then that I don't believe <what you said, can't be bothered to retype it>. As I said earlier, of course proper nouns should be capitalised whether or not they are fictional. But the exception is god, since it is a good way to point out that the widely believed-in entity doesn't actually exist. A sort of code, for those in the know, if you like. I guess you're not in that group.

Except god of course.

Stumpy and Gazza will be WELL impressed with a body swerve like that. Did you play centre at school perhaps ? Rog No swerve at all. I have stated my position consistently throughout this debate. It is just unfortunate that mr Stabby is a thicko who didn't go to proper school and therefore has difficulty interpreting plain English. Actually, I suspect he is probably an Eastern European and thus doesn't have English as his first language. Or maybe an escapee from The Jungle, Calais?
