I had a barney with a CRT chugger at a lock this morning, with her telling me CRT has been spending more money every year on canals maintenance. More money, perhaps, but where's it going - certainly not on any visible servicing. I pointed out two paddles at Salterhebble are fucked and that there's money to waste on the new logo but not to actually get anything done. She then told me CRT is a charity - I said no it's not, it's a business.
I mentioned to a boater coming the other way that there was a CRT rep lurking at the next bridge and he said "What did she want - money?"
The problem with the chuggers is that they fill them full of lies, wind them up and let them go. I had one the other day swear blind the re-branding was only costing £60,000 when I pointed out this was only for the design of the logo and mr Leighton was in a video on the website saying it was going to cost 1% of the turnover i.e. 2.2 million this year, they got quite upset and said I was lying.
