Where did you buy that coal you have in your boat? Who is the bagger and supplier? Do you have any idea where the coal actually comes from? How does it burn? Heat quality, ash content? Is it all wet/damp in the bag or dry? How much did it cost? Do you recommend it to other boaters? How do you carry it back to the boat?

"It is generally accepted that coal originated from plant debris including ferns, trees, bark, leaves, roots and seeds some of which accumulated and settled in swamps." Google
I use a pram to wheel coal to the boat.

On the boat, I've only burned a little coal, to keep the fire in when the wood burns away. However Noreen reacts to fumes, hits her chest, the stove, given the relatively short chimney, leaks when the door is open, or when we get a downdraught. She had to go and stand by the open door the other night, we were getting a lot of downdraughts. So decided not to burn coal in the future. I do have a 1m chimney to fit when moored, going to make a cowl to fit, one of the turning type, with a bittern silhouette as befits the boat name.

I get down draughts due to being by tall buildings so I have fitted a Brewer Aerodyne Cowl. Bit large but does the job well. Adjustable for any size of flue.
