The national trust aren't all goody goody though, so I suppose they are the model that crt are trying to emulate. The problem is though the towpath, their main attraction is free.

The National Trust would charge everyone £12 to use the towpath. Each time. Plus the parking charge. The canals would be in good order though, with lock keepers on every lock.

I think it is a shame that there are so many former lock keepers' (or 'lengthsmen's) cottages/houses just standing empty. Does CRT prevent people from buying these? Of course many would like a house by a lock, so why are they derelict?

I dumped the National trust when a castle we went to visit had moved to English heritage!! was still in the new book well pissed off I was! Anyway membership cancelled and thats that
