The government of the day would have won the election, and so could call another whenever they want, see this summer's debacle. If they lost then they couldn't. However governments have run more than one referendum until they've got what they want. So you are saying people aren't allowed to change their minds as the facts of the matter become clear, after a few years? In which case the referendum that took us into the EU still stands, by your rules we can't have another to rescind it? Where is the democracy in that? If you leavers had lost by a tiny percentage would you have shut up? No, you would have been crowded round Nigel, wittering on, and on, and on.... That is a fair view. It's why we had the bloody referendum FFS

Did anybody really vote to crash out of the EU with no deal and the chaos, the damage to our economy that would cause, really?

what do you not understand about we've already had a referendum? I've said why I think we should have another. what are you suggesting Firestarter?
Best out of 3 / 5 / 7 etc until you remoaners get the result you want ? Double or quits ? Rock, paper, scissors ? Toss of a coin ?

37% of the electorate voted to leave! What percentage of the electorate voted to remain? Presumably it was less than 37%, or have I misunderstood how referendums work?

He was talking post referendum with the result being so close. What is actually 'bollox' is to suggest that the brexiteers would have just shut up shop if the result had been as close but the other way. There is no way on this earth they would have done so. To suggest anything else is nothing else other than totally dishonest.

Good morning from the twisted one. Whichever of those that keeps us in will suit me and half the country just fine. Here's a little something to get you going on a rainy autumn morning g.co/kgs/c9BRrj

Better that than being ground down further and bled to death by a corrupt, monolithic organisation only interested in getting their noses further into the trough. There is no chance of an organisation like the EU reforming itself, and without reform it is a train crash waiting to happen. Better out now .... we are heading for pain anyway, better to get out now with a chance to begin sorting things out before the whole thing goes tits up.

Yes I can see why people feel like that but initially we'd put ourselves in a very weak trading position. If we're going to rely on membership of the World Trade Organisation, a much more bureaucratic organisation than the EU with 164 member states, we needed to have started negotiations many years ago. The US has recently shown it's current view of world trade hasn't it with it's proposed sanctions on Bombardier, Mr Trump has protectionist views and they will be signing trade deals on their own terms. Protectionism is on the rise worldwide, that won't help us. This illustrates just one of the difficulties we might face.. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/oct/05/the-guardian-view-on-wto-rules-not-a-brexit-safety-net
