We had a phone call yesterday from a company we have dealt with for several years who are in the Import/Export business.
Since the recession started I have concentrated on two sectors, the Building Trade and Import/Export which
involves collections from Airports and then distribution to various end users.
Anyhow the collection was this morning at 5am and then onto Abercrombie&Fitch on Saville Row in London for 8.30am,
I try and grab these London jobs for myself,I like to see the city "wake up" get a coffee at a pavement cafe along with
the Jack Russel munching a bacon sandwich ,we are a long time dead and it makes the rest
of the shit bearable
I got there at 7.15 and the shop was already open,a beautiful American lady opened the door, exchanged pleasantries and
signed for the stuff and off I went. Some Japanese tourists across the road stood aiming cameras up into the sky, they
jostled with each other for space on the narrow pavement chattering and giggling. It was when I noticed the graffiti
that it dawned on me where I was,it was of course Number Three Saville Row,the former home of the Beatles Apple
Company and the site of the famous Rooftop Concert back in 1969.The final concert in fact.
Who can forget the iconic footage of Lennon in a fur coat and Ringo with a red PVC mac,the office girls on the street
beneath pointing up at the roof, this was London when it really swung and then the Police closing down proceedings
as history was being made and then preserved for posterity.
Do you know what I did next ? I jumped out of the van and joined the Japanese across the road gazing up at the
rooftop like some crazy man,I can't tell you how good that felt. Beatles !
