Going back to the OP a Carribean "slug" would be a good boat but I've noticed they seem to be getting quite expensive lately (£20k+ for a good one) and of course they are wide as well so would limit cruising area.

Ours was re-engined, it was dropped in the midship cabin via a hatch in the roof. A berth was over the lump which had access from all sides and top so all easy for maintenance. The void under the stern hatch left plenty of room for calorifier, large battery bank (to store all the solar output) and room for tools etc Phil

Sorry your house sale fell through...thats a real stress test...selling houses is just horrible now days I hear there is chatter about laws to prevent gazumping. Having never brought a house I can't comment on the stress however, I've always enjoyed moving.

Having never brought a house I can't comment on the stress however, I've always enjoyed moving. Agreed, the law should have been changed years ago and yes it is very stressful, we were once unlucky enough to fall foul of this type of sharp practice. On the day we were due to complete the Indian purchaser refused to exchange contracts unless we dropped the price by £5000-00. Me being me said bollocks I ain't selling to you no way. A couple of hours later I got a call from my solicitor saying an Indian chap had heard our sale had fallen through and had offered a price at £5000-00 below the agreed sale price, again I refused to play and sold the next day to a couple from Luton who were desperate to move to London but had been gazumped, so result all round except for the Indian chap who was down the price of a full survey Phil

Sealed bids for me, after which the winner came round with a builder, made up rubbish about all the work he'd have to do, i.e. wanted to do and tried to knock £40k off! He was told that I wouldn't now be selling to him no matter what he offered.
When sale was agreed with another buyer someone else tried to gazump them but they were told to do one too.
Going along with this kind of thing just encourages it.

Usual comments by the usual people.
It is perhaps an inconsiderate mooring, but the relevance of the boat's status, and the owner's hair defeat me.

My husband and I share a 40 foot springer that cost less than £20,000 and has a made up bed. The hull is in awesome condition - the surveyor said it will outlast us, though my husband is having to redesign the interior. Who on earth thought a small bath was important enough to mean a 5'7 bed was necessary? If you can find a good hull and engine and are happy to sort out the inside as you go along then there is no reason that I can see for not being able to afford a narrowboat on that budget.

Talking of 'liveaboards' I just read this from "t'other channel". canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/93734-bcn-moorons/ I'd say one solution is to print 100 copies of the original post and slap them up all over the place in locations near those boats. Also include Annette Vaughan's e-mail address so people can write to her to ask if she's got orf her 'fat chance' ("If you mention to Ms Vaughan that it was the same boats that were there last week and will be there next week etc etc she can go and find out for herself...............fat chance!!") < although looking at that photo I think I could get a 150-foot boat through that gap with ease, some people do protesteth too much > I notice Nick doesn't come on here with his story of overstaying livaboards getting in his way. Perhaps because he wouldn't get the congratulatory back slaps like he does on there.

Here's one. I'd offer low enough to cover installing a multi fuel stove and smaller radiator in the salon to be under your £30k and dispense with the survey to get the offer accepted pronto. Looks loved to me, owners want gone as moving abroad. I'd prefer a bit longer but look at others in this price range/size and they're mostly 15-20 years older and not as well equipped. m.apolloduck.com/boat.phtml?id=543403

Our boat's not too bad at 56', she's quite nimble and swims well.
