If you take a close look at Saltysplash's photo you can see the importance of still being able to read a chart. That photo isn't good enough to see the chart real well, but it looks like his plotter has charted a straight course between two points, as shown on the screen. You can see that the boat has either wandered or been navigated a tad off course. I'm guessing that Salty casually navigated around that long, narrow, shallow area and then you can see he makes a more drastic correction to starboard to get back on course and avoid the small round shallow, or rock or whatever it is he is headed for. Its very detailed Paul, amazing really.I had no idea such a thing existed and all done through GPS

Indeed, plus the push of the tide over the sandetti bank is quite remarkable so when you think your following a compass course in a straight line, your actually going diagonally so the plotter gives you a real time display of your position and shows you your track over the ground plus it also shows the track to follow between the waypoints you have programmed in. Keeping the paper chart up to date is vitally important as you never know when the Plotter or GPS back up is going to crash or even heaven forbid if the US military turn off the satellites. My routine was to update the paper chart with our position every half hour so that if the plotter did ever fail at least I could calculate an estimated position using our last fix, our course direction and the current estimated drift using the tide tables.

Not like you to leave a good time early We'd seen as much as we wanted to by then, it was getting uncomfortably crowded, I would guess that as I write this, cars are queueing for couple of hours to get out of the car park, so we went back to the boat and had a barbecue. We enjoyed it, just didn't want to dally overlong.

I just passed some foreign truckers having one at the side of their trucks, one was in his vest and pants.

We went today too - we were there when they let us in at 10 and for the first time in a few years, actually spent some money - not on anything exciting I suppose, just fire-extinguishers 3 dry powder with bss approval and 1 "new one" the size of a torch from a bloke on his own - seemed like one you'll use FIRST to avoid the mess of powder.
I also bought 2 sponges on elastic and nearly bought a shoreline fridge freezer off display - trouble was, we'd gone in the rav rather than lexus and it wouldn't fit in the boot DOH!.
I did get a good look at the little aintree boat inside to get a feel for how im going to build our tiny dinette... we'd wrapped up there by 12.30 and had lunch in the wheatsheaf in the village before heading home and to the tip with some old fence by 4

Aah the truth is slowly coming out.You told everyone here you would limit yourself to one over priced Tea Towel, and it turns out you have been carousing round Crick Show half drunk on Special Brew infused with several Askit Powders and have entered the Boat Valeting Business.Slowly sobering up you have come on here to extol the qualities and the in built value in yet another frivolous purchase you have made while inebriated, but it was the sight of you attempting to mount a Hanging Basket either side of the Front Door filled with Pansies that finished you in the Forums Eyes
