I did wonder if it was a kromhout as I have not heard of French Gardners but Google throws up a few results for Latil Gardner.

Perhaps for some reason the Latil units were not suitable for boats. I would have thought it would be well known to boaters as anything related to Gardner is pretty much like a cow is to a Hindu .
Sorry to arrive a bit late, as I've been very busy doing a few other things.
Looking at the picture in the eBay listing I can say that I've only seen a truck like this once in my life, and that was in the early 80's at a truck scrap place where I went with a friend who needed a cheap drive shaft, and as this truck was such a rare beast, the scrapguy wasn't probably going to sell any parts to anyone, as nobody was still using that kind of truck, so we got that shaft for next to nothing.
The engine had been removed, so I didn't know that they had an engine made under Gardner licence, but I looked it up on Google and Latil used to build Gardner engines under their own make name Latil for quite a few years even petrol ones before the LW clones, they later became a better know make Saviem, followed by Berliet, before it all became Renault trucks.
