We need bargemast to carry out a quick visual inspection and confirm or deny my suggestion its aluminium. I don't really want to get in there with a magnet but could do so in the interest of the forum if other experts are unsure. IF it was aluminium it might make the salvage operation quite a lot less complicated as aluminium is about a third of the weight of steel. And if it turns out to be scrap then aluminium is more valuable than mild steel so that would no doubt help as well. What's it worth as scrap. Couldn't we cut it up. Weigh it in and buy a boat that's already floating.

It's about time this myth of changing a boat's name was knocked properly on the head once and for all. And not changing the name when it's in the water. It is pathetic.

Knowing that ads are often full of lies, I still believe that it was very rare for yachts built around 1920's to be made of aluminium. In the ebay ad you can read : "The whole ship is built of steel"
So unless a magnet will proof that's wrong, I do believe this.

If it is the boat by vospers which has tonnage of 157. Can't remember what the ad said about this one.
It was built for W.E Corlett who was a climber. I don't know where he got his money from bit was quite rich this is all I have found so far. It's an extract from a climbing club journal
His beautiful steam-yacht 'Helig' (the n a me a coincidence) has for years been an object of interest to visitors to Conway where he kept it. For his annual holiday it took him to Scotiand to stay at his house at Loch Moidart.

I hear Radio Caroline are doing test broadcasts on AM again from a boat? Maybe we could set up a pirate radio station on the boat and call it Radio Thunderboat.
Tomsk could sit there most of the day playing random stuff (so long as I get to do a Progressive Metal program). Mr Stabby could do children's stories. What program do the rest of you want to do?

Well the breakfast show needs a motormouth, someone you can keep talking non stop. I nominate foxy. There could be a daily stoppages bit in the theme of the shipping forecast. Being young younger, I could do party night. Fri or a sat.

That's interesting. A lot of taLking ! I quite like the ramshackle arrangement of random big old boats down there. there is another more modern "superyacht" there as well but one does wonder if it would be possible to insure boats like that. If the council do require insurance and the boats are uninsurable they might get a few more people sinking their boats I wonder what CRT would do if this was on their water? I would have thought they could just salvage it and bill the owner - yesterday - unless he has covered his tracks in which case who is selling the boat? Odd situation it seems to me they just need to sort it and get rid. Maybe its full of toxic waste (asbestos?) and ea won't allow anything to be done. This is what I gathered from the man at the museum there. Something fishy going on. Maybe its got a load of dynamite in there

So.... who lives the closest to Maldon? Well it was Johnv who lived closest until recently but I noticed he did an east coast passage once this old boat rolled over as he obviously knew he would be called upon to be in charge of the operation to salvage it. Now its me who's closest but I am unable to organise a piss up in a brewery ! I can get things done efficiently but would need project (foxy) and site (johnv) managers.

Hand puppetry for me. I'm not sure a puppet show will work on the radio.😁😂

The boat is big enough to include a special dark (and padded) room for Mr Fox to do a bit of puppet stuff in front of a camera and stream it onto the webshite thunderboatradio.uk.com
One of my neighbours is Chief Anorak at the BBC so I can consult him about the whole radio side of it. He wanted to set up a temp station on my boat but I was not about at the time.
Instead of "the boat that rocked" the advertising motto for this new venture could be "the boat that rolled"
