A fine example of irresponsible parenting. The child was allowed to run free with the mother being unaware of were her son was in a zoo. The child managed to climb a low fence and fall into the 10ft deep moat where a endangered gorilla seized it with unknown intent. So they shot and killed the gorilla. I beleive the mother should have been shot for having such a cavalier approach to child care Phil

Some parents seem happy to have their little darlings out of the hair, when we go to the local brewers fayre choke and puke pub I'm always amazed that parents allow their kids to run wild round the play area and pub in general. The shits should be supervised just to check they are not misbehaving (which the invariably are!!) Aside from the worry of them wandering off/getting took away. I like to think we are not overbearing with our little un, but I am acutely aware of my responsibility to others when out with her, she shouldn't impact on someone else's day, sadly there are far too many that are capable of pumping kids out, but totally incapable of raising the little feckers!

I would have never let my son get out of my site in a public place at that age. I'm going to see if I can put a video up here, I've never done that before. Just in case it's unsuccessful, here's a link to an article with a video of the boy with the gorilla. The gorilla seems almost protective, from what you can see on the tape, but the article says the tape doesn't show the whole encounter and the gorilla at one point was dragging the kid through the water. Poor silverback gorillas just can't catch a break. They're such magnificent beasts, and for some insane reason that seems to drive mankind to want to hunt them to extinction. Sad..............

Better than what happened to the gorilla, watching the film it seemed to be trying to help the kid, poor thing shot because of an idiot mother, who should be steralised so she cant have any more kids not to look after!!

I don't take issue with anyones opinion on the matter but I must go with both Phil and John on this, some of these people aren't fit to be parents.

Those of us parents whose offspring never fell into the gorilla enclosure are free to offer as much criticism of that mother as we want.
