I nabbed some old hoarding wood from the building shite skip (softwood painted grey and possibly treated as well) anyway I have used it as kindling and it makes a real blue flame.
Does this mean I am going to kill my neighbours?
I'm not going to burn it "willy nilly" just as a starting aid in the mornings.

Given your location, CRT might well offer to pay you for killing some neighbours. The London floaters page might get a bit miffed though.

Maybe I could approach the night mayor Mr Khan and see if he need population reduction. Oh no - he wants the opposite and wants to ban wood burning specifically on boats !!

Use some chopped up old tyres to neutralise the noxious paint / coating on the wood..works wondersπ

AFAIK wood should burn with the same colour flame as any other hydrocarbon - i.e. blue. A yellow or orange flame is a sign of incomplete combustion, probably releasing excess CO.
................... but I haven't googled it so I may have to stand corrected.

I'm sure if there is an error in what you say the collected brethren will soon highlight this... I'm sure if your statement is 100% accurate some members of the collective brethren will soon highlight possible misrepresentation of fact....

Different elements cause a flame to be different colours, there could be metals in the wood treatment that are causing it. Is it tanalised wood.

My smokeless coal usually burns orange although occasionally there is some blue. Scaffold boards (untreated) burn yellow or orange but this stuff is very blue. Yes it might be tantalised or bromide treated I'm not sure.

I put an old mobile phone (old Nokia push button one) in the fire earlier, complete with battery. Sort of greenish tinge to the flame and disappointingly no explosion.
