Not sure where to put this, so pot luck. We are in the lucky situation of being able to get a live aboard in the near future, and have decided Northampton and the Nene is a good idea. Is anyone ( I think Gazza is local ) able to advise on marinas. We are looking at Northampton Marina in the centre and Blackthorne marina slightly more rural.
Any help / advise welcomed. We will be in Northampton on 16 - 18th February for meet up if possible.
Cheers, Jerry & Gemma

Northampton Marina is a fine well secure place, excellent location for town (which is a bit on its arse to be honest!) The two big problems are vehicle parking - available in St Johns multistorey if you don't mind walking across Becket's park and leaving your car unattended at night. The other is noise, we stayed for a few nights when it was getting ready to open in 2011 for the local iwa branch Rally. The hospital is just down the road and you could here sirens regularly! If those two are not important and you want to be close to town I'd pick there over Billing and Cogenhoe, both are run by the same management and will evacuate you in times of severe flooding. White Mills near Earls Barton is within striking distance of town and is a very nice looking place having been built in the last few years. We have yet to visit by boat but have had good reports from those that have visited. www.whitemillsmarina.co.uk/Blackthorn is owned and run by the ever helpful and hard working Clive Hodgson and his wife. It's in a great location, the road from Great Addington to Ringstead can be prone to flooding but they won't evacuate you if the water comes up - all berths are floating pontoons so safe enough. Quite a good little live aboard community there. About 30 minutes to get to Northampton by car www.blackthornlakemarina.co.uk/Woodford Riverside is nice but moorings don't often come up there. www.woodfordriversidemarina.co.uk/The new Marina at Lilford lodge is virtually empty, hardly surprising as it's eye wateringly expensive. www.lilfordmarina.co.uk/lilford-lodge-marina/Next up is Oundle but you are now a good 45 minutes plus from Northampton. A well established Marina with all services and a brilliant couple who run it. www.oundlemarina.com/After that there is currently very little in the way of marinas heading towards Peterborough - Yarwell Mill and Buckles at Stibbington excepted. I'll let you know if I'm about that weekend, 3 days in advance is forward planning for me at the moment

Hi Gazza, thank you so much for the information. Had to go to the pub to research. Think we have come to the same conclusion about Northampton Marina.
So looking forward to finally getting closer to being on the water,
Hope we can meet up..
