'Ve been playing with the new yot and obviously its been a bit chilly so thoughts turn to heating. The cabin is tiny - less than ten feet long - so there is not really a big demand for heat. Probably similar to a campervan. I don't want gas heating.
I've considered charcoal burners and diesel heaters but was wondering if its feasible to put a flue on a small paraffin heater of some sort? Boat doesn't need much heat but a little bit of dry warmth (ie with flue) would probably help.

Is it when on the move or when its stood still? If its when on the move a heater matrix and fan of a car would do the job running of the heater circuit on the engine.

I like the look of that mini stove - when we eventually get back to dry land (10-15 years down the line) I might fit one in the summer house and greenhouse.
edited to add parafin is not a good idea... it's SO wet - even as a greenhouse heater it chucks out SO much moisture and stinks!

I'm guessing MM won't be fussed about the smell, he is a self confessed soap dodger

Actually I really don't like the smell of paraffin but suspect with a flue it might be OK. Flue through the deck head I mean . My dislike of the smell of paraffin goes back to when I was 8 years old playing in a hay barn with a rusty can of paraffin and matches which wouldn't light.
Anyway yes it is for when stationary. I am definitely going to put a radiator or cab heater in there as the engine is heat exchanger cooled and there is plenty of capacity for losing some heat.
That might be enough. Its not for living on and the general plan is that it will be moving when I use it. I wonder if there is some sort of storage heater system I could use? Maybe just a little eberspacher hot water tank under the bed fed of the engine circuit would do it.

Car sourced ThermoTops can be an utter pain in the arse. I know this as I got a cheap as chips unit from an X5. Nothing wrong with the unit, it was impossible to get it going as there was no CANBUS to talk to it. I ended up taking it to a chap called Justin at Napton to put a new ecu in it and get it going. It worked out cheaper than a new marine kit but it was a lot of buggering about to get it going. If I was fitting another I'd just get a full kit to start with tbh. The other problem for MM is there won't be a lot to work it over. You need 4l of coolant minimum, this means a heater/rad the engine and a biggish cauliflower at a minimum. I've separated out the circuits and fitted a plate heat exchanger to mine so it has to work reasonably hard. Cycling kills them.

Nothing but a right royal pain in the arse, S type jags [diesel] have them only seen one that worked!!! In the past I have seen owners exiting the cars fast as they thought they had caught fire so funny

Another little stove on eBay which looks quite nice. Look at this on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142676439867Its true they don't burn for long. I had a Davey HotPot in a boat years ago and it was awkward to keep it in for the night because it was so small. The "Rolls Royce" system is the Wallas 1300 paraffin fired warm air blower but that's about £1000 which is too much. I remember seeing something similar on eBay (used item) branded as Hella or Volvo or something (I can't remember the brand but someone will know) - advertised as heating for a campervan and I think it was paraffin and had an exhaust like an eberbastokuni type unit. Little Mikuni 1.6 air unit is another possible I suppose. I am also quite tempted to find an oxyacetylene bottle and work out some cutouts then get a plasma cutter onto it. Hole in top for loading. Hole in front for ash out and air in. Another hole in top for flue. People make stoves from calor gas bottles but they are very thin - the wall thickness on oxygen bottles seems to be much greater and would make a much more solid little stove I think. I don't fancy a thin thing really. Another way would be pipe flanges joined with thick wall tube. I have seen a stove which looked like flanges. Looked really good. Not sure if it was diy or a production item.
