Best thing to do would be to buy it on a collection basis, then turn up at the seller's house with proof that it is yours.
It always amazes me that some folk are prepared to give themselves a lifetime's reputation as a thief for what? £20? If you are in a marina, then eventually it will become general knowledge that things only ever get stolen when a certain person is there.

Yes, that's the thing, the amount the tea leaves will get for it is minimal compared to the cost of replacing it. I doubt they would even get £20 for it, I imagine it will get weighed in at a scrap metal yard somewhere for £3.

If it's kids, they probably lobbed it in the canal not far from your boat.
Seems unlikely to me that such an item would be sold onwards via Ebay.
