Noticed these diesel heaters are a bit less expensive than eber and mikuni. 2kw air heater £430 including vehicle kit (yes I know it would need some pipework mods to pass the BS scheme). Question is has anyone come across one or heard from anyone using them? There is a UK supplier who warranty's them and offers parts backup so I think it looks like quite a good item. www.planarheaters.co.uk/home/2kw-diesel-air-heater/

Peter.

There are some good words on ybw as well.
I'm interested in a small air heater which I will be able to move between two different boats. Hoping to be able to uninstall and reinstall it in ten minutes or something.
The ideal one is the Wallas 1300 but its £850 excluding fitting kit. This one is half as much and diesel is a bit better then paraffin I think.
I know that portaging from one boat to another is a bit odd but not intending to do it regularly its just an option I want to have available if needed.

I think it would be a pita to move it. Not a fan of blown air heaters despite having an Eber, which looks identical to your link. I think 2kw will cycle a lot in a small space, my 1.6kw does it so much I generally don't use it! I just use for a quick blast before going to bed and before getting up. To move it you'd need to move the pump, the control bit, have two thermostats two exhaust systems...or move those too. Not a 10 minute job imo.

Idea would be to have all install parts on each boat and just move the unit itself by undoing the fuel, electric and air connections. And the mounting bolts. And it wouldn't be for full time heating just as a preheater which is what these are designed for in the first place.
I think its doable and its not something I would be doing regularly anyway.

There is a thread on this in the other forum, mainly concerned with cheap Chinese knock offs Which they decry but apparently are not too bad and at about £200 might well suit you. There is also a facebook page Chinese Diesel vehicle air heaters - Discussion, Help, Parts & Sales. The agent for the genuine heaters sometimes posts on there.

I was wondering about this as the Planar things claim to be Russian but me thinks its a Chinese product (foxy likes this). And there are some considerably cheaper units as you say. Not sure if the 2kw unit is available as a super cheap Chinese knockoff. I would not be averse to it if it were as its only for occasional use and I can handle risk due to being incredibly wealthy.
I hate Facebook and do not use it.
I can have a look at canalworld though.

I hate Facebook and do not use it. There is a lot of stuff on that facebook page, instal tips, which Chinese sellers to avoid etc, worth signing up joining the group, having a good read and then cancelling.

At that price you could buy one for each boat.

So selling it as a Russian product is a good marketing strategy. I just wonder if it actually is made in Russia. It probably is but it occurred to me that the parts required to manufacture this sort of device may just be mass produced in China. I don't mind the Chinese stuff really for non essential equipment. It would be a bit odd paying twice as much for something which someone just screwed together in another country. I know it happens all the time.

The trouble is this falls under John Ruskin's excellent advice.
It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
Air Tops and D2/D4's can be fussy enough, a Russian/Chinese potential nightmare? Ummmm I'll give that a miss! Dad sent me a link for one of these to go in Vanguard, I told him to forget it, if rather deal with East Coast Marine or Butler Technik than some random on eBay.
The daddy of all air heaters is the Wallas (I'm lucky to have one through circumstance and good fortune!) Trouble is it comes with the daddy of price tags too!

I've heard that Wallas is the thing to have. You're not the first knowledgeable person to mention this
