looking at all the options for heating the new yot. While searching eBay I came across this unit. Another american thing. "Gasoline fired. 9 amperes" its a warm air blower. Look at this on eBay www.ebay.com/itm/192083624142I think people put petrol generators on boats so would it really be world-endingly serious to put this on a boat ? If it was mounted outside with the air ducted into the cabin. 9 amps does seem a bit excessive but that might just be the initial startup ? I've noticed petrol neverspachers as well.

Hmmmmm Andrew if you are thinking of other fuels than Diesel, then maybe an earlier suggestion of a Propex is not such a far out idea

I'm weighing up all the options and by the time I have worked out the best solution it'll be spring anyway and the matrix heater run off the engine will probably do the job for a bit ! Just don't want to rush into cutting flue holes or installing gas lockers yet.

Do give serious consideration to the Propex Heatsource. I fitted one on my previous boat as a supplementary heater (40'x12') and found it to be quiet and an excellent heater Phil

Plenty of people have propex heaters they are relatively cheap, safe reliable would that petrol heater beafter it burnt your boat to the waterline?

looking at all the options for heating the new yot. You appear to produce enough hot air on a daily basis on here to keep a small yot warm....
Just talk to yourself whilst on board!

I imagine it drinks petrol like it's going out of fashion, with low fuel prices the Septics have never really been bothered about the fuel consumption of anything.

I'm not on FB but would like to forward it on to my dad, I'm desperate he doesn't leg me up with a piece of crap off eBay to fit for him!

I did a little bit of research (not fb) on these Chinese units and it seems interesting.
Obviously there are vested interests etc but it looks like the cheap ones might be a bit more risky in terms of exhaust gas temperature and probability of heat exchanger failure (air blower units). Possibly not ideal for something which would be run unattended sometimes.
