So hear is another one that caught my eye, on ebay and there is some water damage. States that is come from a window, but looks more than a window leak to me, unless someone had a hose on it for a while and let water pour through a decent size hole. Anyway let me know what you think as there is no reserve on it and the advert states they want around 28k for this...yea right, water damage, floor missing and no door on the multifuel stove. I don't mind a fix er up but at the right price. Thanks again folks.. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Narrowboat/282849893030?hash=item41db2adaa6:g:Xx4AAOSwXOhahe9A

No usual disclaimer of could be removed die to being advertised somewhere else.
Might go for 10k. Could be worth it then.
Just to counter your point I presume they are not liveaboard I wonder how long that leak could of been leaking.
In my humble inexprierience opinion the entire fit out needs ripping out.
What's with the rust look on the stove.

Interesting one Rob ....... That much water damage is either a small leak for a hell of a long time (rust on stove = galloping condensation?) or a very large leak that one would need to know is not indicative of a major problem.
If it has been a long time with a lot of water causing a lot of condensation, I would agree with the above and say total refit.
The photos show a lot of damp still not dried out properly and I would expect there to be lots of small damp related problems that won't show in pictures but need close up examination (lifting veneer, de-lamination, black mould in poorly ventilated corners even possibly rot, etc.
I could be wrong ...... only close personal inspection to be sure.
the pictures are not particularly helpful, I notice in the second picture, in the background there is what looks to be new carpet off cuts ...... so how much further did the water damage go than just that shown?
There also does not seem to be any photos in the way of exterior nor of engine hole and machinery spaces
agree with BFG and Patty, very optimistically priced
it all depends on close examination so It's probably worth a look before a tentative offer (subject to survey), especially if it's not too far to travel

those T&C's .............. I see nothing wrong with them. Am I missing something? It's an auction. The seller loses a percentage to Ebay if the winning bidder doesn't come up with the dough. You wanted it - you pay for it! By bidding, you may have put off others, and you may have raised the final price. However, many of the 'Nigerian scams' are sophisticated nowadays. This boat may not actually be for sale at all! I would make sure the first £1000 went to where it's supposed to go, even driving round and handing it over to the seller in person, with witnesses, and a confirmation of that house you visit really is theirs in case you need to go back later and stick red hot mooring pins in their eyes. Cooker is too near the steps - hard to cook with people coming & going. Also, sink being on the other side means you have to keep turning round to drain the peas. I do like the rail on top (both sides) - and the bumper-thingy at back looks new.

Bastards expected me to pay up front before I had even read it! But the difference is that if, when you opened it up, all of the pages were blank then WH Smiths would refund your purchase price. The seller here has stated that the deposit is non-refundable even if the survey shows it has serious and expensive problems. All boat buying contracts should make provision for the buyer to withdraw from the sale if there are survey issues, and a buyer wouldn't stump up £800 for a lift-out and survey if he was just a tyre-kicker.

It's an auction - how is there the possibility to say to the winner "OK, you can order a hull survey now, and if the results are disappointing, you don't have to pay for the boat, we will re-list it." ??
There is this: "As a guide we have a recent (December) stern hull plate thickness survey and the results showed very little wear and tear, there are no obvious faults"
However - what's a 'stern hull plate thickness survey' ? And why just the stern plate? Can a bidder ask to see the results of that?
I missed the 'irrespective of survey' bit - so will agree with you - not really the way to buy a steel narrowboat. It could be full of holes all the way from the stern plate to the front bumper.
