That's the good thing about a forum such as this - input and different views from others. I only saw a 'genuine-looking Ebay seller' (and they may indeed be?) who didn't want a load of chavs in Burberry hats renegading on their offers. I now see the error of my first impressions. However, the seller could be contacted to see if they may be more amenable. I wonder why anybody would sell such a large object on Ebay anyway... boats go by word of mouth (in a flash if they are a good 'un)... by notices in marinas, by adverts in Canal Boat-type magazines, and on ApolloDuck-type sites. I have bought many small objects from Ebay - around 200 - and have been disappointed only twice. Bicycles, kettles, tools, sleeping bags, tents, books, lamps, that kind of thing. Latest purchase a pink Helly Hansen lifejacket for the Witch, as we will be on the scary Rivers Calder, Aire, Trent and Thames in the near future. 'chav' - a young lower-class person typified by brash and loutish behaviour. He has sold 2 others and pocketed all the fee money, he wants a bank transefer so ebay won't be paid there selling fee and paypal won't get there transfer % either so with the other 2 sales he has saved a few grand and he will do on this sale too, so he is effectivley selling his boats to 1000s of potential buyers for free, very crafty.

Personally there is no way that I would pay out "Irrespective of survey"
"subject to survey" is fair trading anything else is not

I agree, establishing a personal relationship with the seller is the key to getting him to show some flexibility over his rather strange terms and conditions.

Just for clarification. Did you message them through ebay or the company? ebay message Ok. So that means you havn't ruled out a possible scam. Reduce the risk by contacting the company direct, preferably by phone. I'm not saying it is a scam just giving advice about reducing any risks.

Do you have any advice on what sort of "personal relationship" would work best? Nicking underwear from their washing line maybe ?
