Oil spill on the river Lea....CaRT informed

I bet the local boaters are gutted at being asked not to move their boats and being told that the usual 14 day rule is suspended until further notice.  

Some boaters have been moaning that the oil is going to damage their boats. I don't really see that but its a bit of a slum area so there may be some very shagged boats which could possibly be damaged. Seems improbable.

I imagine prolonged contact with oil would dissolve bitumen based blacking though?

They're idiots not to take it. When I had some, about half your qty, the tip took it because I distracted them with my vw camper. Previously someone recommended tipping it down a road drain when nobody was looking.

If you need to - bring it over here as I've still got my local tip pass... I can always pour it into the used oil bin in wakey...NOT in one container though as I'd not be able to lift it being a feeble bender! ... well down to that or the carpal tunnel ops.

We've done this four or five times before, sucking whatever's at the bottom of the tank. Sometimes it's been clean enough to pour back through a filter - after I let it stand for some hours/days, and then poured just the top part, leaving any dirt/water at the bottom. Last October we extracted 20 litres (four 5-litre containers) and it still looks murky.

On the subject of 'having a clearout/recycling', I wanted to go through all my boxes in the storeroom here at home, and in the car garage, at first to look for maps that would be relevant to our upcoming trips. Then I thought it's time to get rid of a lot of my books. I suppose I had been saving them 'for the future' but I think that future is here already; the books have just been sitting in boxes, and I am now sorting out those I want to keep and those that can go.
The ones in Finnish will be shown to my daughter first (those she doesn't want to a charity shop?).
Those in English I thought to take to our boat, and if we come across any nice boaters I could ask if there are any books they fancy, and to just take them. Rather too many to offer here and send by post (heavy stuff), so maybe I can take them over one rucksack at a time...

 I understand people who have got rid of most of their possessions and moved onto a boat. We tend to gather a load of 'stuff' during our lives. When we die, someone will just take 99% of it round to the local dump.
