Why not just put the electric blanket on?

Why not just put the electric blanket on? Because only poofs have electric blankets... oh, wait!

I'd prefer a decent sleeping bag. Any recommendations? They're a bit like hand tools. You get what you pay for. E.g A Poundland set of spanners, as opposed to a Snap On set of spanners. Look for a 4 season bag. You'll get something half decent for your needs on the boat, for around the £100ish mark. If you're planning a cruise up Mt Everest, then plan on spending £600 + for a proper job.

I always buy good tools (Snap-on, Britool, Wera) so I will buy a good sleeping bag. Thanks for the guide about how much to look at spending

You can always be guaranteed to get many opinions and recommendations from the collective.....your task now to sift the wheat from the chaff and make a informed decision...Good luck with that

Why not just put the electric blanket on? The electric bed warmer (underblanket) will be on there but unless I run the engine its just going to cane the battery. I would like to cover all the angles with the sleeping bag in the sense that it needs to be useable without heating. I will be putting in a small flued cabin heater and a matrix heater off the engine but installation of heating is a summer job, obviously. In the meantime I may need to stay a night now and then - due to tidal windows - while its still cold (not this week).

Stumpy has it about right. A four season bag should cover it.
Make sure the 0° temp is comfort and not extreme temp.
Cotswolds or go outdoors.

The only decent sleeping bag I ever owned was so good I was never able to sleep in it and used it unzipped as a duvet. It was cheap as chips and probably had a foil layer.

I'm going to equip my new yot with a proper sleeping bag as it currently has no heating in there. I'm not willing to use cooker or other unvented heating system I'd prefer a decent sleeping bag. I will need something that a southern softie public school educated toff can deal with. and I'm thin <10 stone 6ft2.5". Looking at 0-5 degrees to cover all probable conditions in UK (inside cabin) Has anyone used these before? Any recommendations? I'm going to Decathlon tomorrow to have a look. A couple of oars would keep you warm. (damn that context related autocorrect!) Jumping threads, is that what the portholes on your boat are for! Just cant get competent galley slaves these days though.

I've got 9 oars. Unfortunately they are all wooden so will not help keep me warm when in bed. Unless I cut them up and burn them on the fire.
Going back to the portholes I had not considered them as oar locks. That's a very interesting suggestion so if I can get some galley slaves to do the cooking (in the galley) and row the barge as well I'll be onto a winner.

Not trousers but I often keep my long johns on. Its against my religion to wear pyjamas.
