Actually that's quite an interesting suggestion. Years ago (2001) I was on the K&A and visiting charity shops (as you do) I bought a perfect "Snowphox" goretex ski suit insulated with thinsulate insulation (!).
It was more or less new and probably a bit dated for the "oh wow isn't skiing so awesome" types. £10. I hate skiing but its a quality garment if a bit anorakish. Only worn it a couple of times last time being in August 2017 in shocking rain on the river Wey. Maybe this would work as a wearable sleeping bag and just put my charity shop Dunlop wool blanket over it ?

Despite being "rich beyond the dreams of everest" I hate spending money. a real Scrooge.

Ignore kris. Get yourself a RAB sleeping bag. Have a look on Ebay. As I said, 900-1000grammes of down. It is what we will be taking with us when we walk along the Pennine Way. For £600 you could pay for quite decent accommodation rather than roughing it.

I would always prefer to buy quality items in charity shops. Sadly I recently binned an old down sleeping bag I inherited from my mother. Old 1960s thing. It was leaking feathers though so probably good to get rid. I don't mind spending on good kit now and then. I've saved a few pennies by not going to hair dresser for about 25 years.

I'm not at all interested in camping its just boats for me. Boats with onboard sleeping options so I don't think the high tec things are really necessary. and its mainly for the next few weeks as come the summer I will have heating in there. Still good to have a decent sleeping bag for backup purposes though. Belt and braces

I have numerous sleeping bags 'in storage' along with all the other mountaineering stuff of mine and the wife's in several large holdalls, have donated some of it but never really could bring myself to sort it properly. Current intention is to donate what would be useful to the homeless and bin the rest. The sleeping bags stink after many uses where we didn't wash so it wouldn't surprise me if they were rejected.

in the 70's I had a Russian army greatcoat and matching fur hat (bought in Murmansk very cheap at a foreign currency store)
When I was in the USA later that winter, it was forced away from me by an American putting enormous quantities of greenbacks in my hand.
I walked out of the bar and just up the road and into a sports store and for about a tenth of the money I had got for the coat and hat, I bought a one piece skidoo suit and rabbit fur hat.
That was a seriously good bit of kit, not as impressive to look at as the Russian coat but more practical and very warm
It traveled with me for many years.
(the hat was pants .... I wish I had hung on to the Russian one, that was superb)

This is what I'd be buying every time www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273072142819 And one of these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222861991021 I wouldn't buy off the Internet when I need another set I go to a surplus warehouse and sort out good condition ones. The last sleeping bag I bought I got an unissued one for £50. Or you could go to one of the trendy camping/outdoor shops and spend about £400 for the same stuff but with brand names on.

When you do tenting/wild camping properly it isn't "roughing it" but exciting & fun. Packing a tent in the rain is shit, I will admit. I camped my way up the Pennine way. I don't know how is now but there were a few stretches where we had to carry 3-4 days food. It took us 20 days in all. We only averaged 8 miles on the first 10 days, but by the end 25-30. It's hard work carrying everything but we were skint and wild camping. If I did it now I'm older I'd B&B.
