PΓΆh. Detention is half an hour until the teacher's wife phones and asks when he's coming home for his tea. Floppy disks are forever.

I would disagree young Martin. I normally send my staff a generic email if I need to stop a triviality etc. It doesn't address anyone in particular, but raises the issue "it's been noticed". If you're not the offender, then there's no problem, and no offence taken. If you are the offender, you might of been un-aware of the issue (but now you know), and are now aware there is an issue that needs to be addressed. The email that Quaysider received seems perfectly acceptable to me. When I was at secondary school I nicked a pack of 5.25" floppy discs as we had just got a new desktop computer at home and I wanted to play with it but had no floppies. The maths teacher said if he didn't get the discs back everyone in the class would get detention. I gave them back. Viagra is your friend, my friend

oddly enough - the main offender was chatting to me earlier and thinks it doesn't apply to THEM lol. We all know who it is - I hate all this "let's bollock everyone so no one gets offended" rubbish ... my last boss used to do it all the time - to save a fight with one person, bollock us ALL ... when he should have manned up and dealt with the problem at it's source I had similar when we had a couple of staff who were smoking in the hospital grounds (which was contrary to Trust policy and not allowed). Tried a 'scatter gun email' at first as we had no actual evidence like CCTV, other staff were un-willing to 'grass them up' so we had little to confront them with. That is until somebody got sick of them whining that they didn't know who 'management who were on about'. Tired with everybody being tarred with the same brush a member of staff finally anonymously tipped us off exactly when and where they did it and I 'coincidentally just happened' to be in the exact same area one day at the service/maintenance area conducting a 'routine visit' to check for any issues. Result.

I think that's the same at all hospitals now. I don't know whether it's changed since I left Thanet but it was a common sight so see doctors and nurses, in uniform, stood outside the gates of QEQM having a fag. Not really the right message to send out to the local yoof.

It's their directive that hospital sites should be smoke free.

Local yoof will be smoking/injecting far worse.

I can't make head not take of it to be honest.
I was in whitchurch hospital which I think was an asylum in Cardiff. It closed 2006.
Now they had smoking rooms on the wards and signs in various other places saying no smoking in this area.
Now in England, and I thought the same law covered England and Wales NHS properties were the first to be hit by the health act 2006.
Maybe it's something to do with that hospital and I haven't done my research for history yet, so an answer may crop up.
Maybe pur Welsh members or our bus contingency can answer it.

I have a vague recollection that mental health facilities were not required to implement a no smoking policy until after 'general' hospital facilities. I don't know what the current situation is in mental health facilities, I would need to ask my daughter.

Yeah I agree ....when I worked nights and the directive against smoking on site came in some staff would still have their fag breaks ,but they'd be off ward much longer as they went off site to smoke. On a busy ward it proved a nightmare especially as now an again in an emergency we didn't have the support...no -one knew where the smokers were. I don't smoke ..never have but I see no wrong in allowing those who do a smoking area away from others.

The latest craze round here is Extasy, back in fashion again. Except they are injecting it. Into the jaw, apparently it's quick, goes straight to the brain. They call it "E by gum"

In the inner east London slum all the Bangladeshi yobboes spend most of their time breathing in creamer gas (Nitrous Oxide) which they have cracked into balloons so they do 't get frost bite. Say NO 2 drugs etc. The number of empty bottles lying around is astounding. Local authority (Tower Hamlets) collected over a million in a month and there are still masses of them everywhere.
Seems very popular but as it is "illegal" to sell these for recreational use I guess scum in catering business are buying them and selling on to the youth. Would be interesting to know how much they are paying as it should only be about 30p each.
They use loads. There were two of them nearby the other day and in an hour they had used about 20 bottles all of which were left on the path.
Sad.
