I was told if you add castor oil or rose oil ?? It can cut the smell out of normal paraffin. I did do some experiments but can't remember if it made any difference. If you fill it with petrol you won't have any problems with that nasty paraffin smell! 👍

What's wrong with having a couple of these? So long as you're in the boat with them when they're on, and are sensible, have them on a proper surface (one in the kitchen sink?), and turn them off if you leave the boat. If they're good enough to be inside a tent, why not inside a boat? It is an option. I'd rather have a gas light running off a 13kg bottle of propane for reasons of economy. I am capable of turning the bottle valve off when I leave the boat. Its not for the yot. Those little camping Gaz lights are OK but I think costs would mount up quite fast if used for extended times. I wonder how much a gas light is to run? Grams per hour etc.

I don't know - you could get one and measure it if you like! I bought two for our boat when we first got the boat. I would like to use them - haven't done so yet. I think the light they give, when lower than the fiery roaring setting which leaves no shadow unmolested, can be cosy, and they give a bit of warmth off too.
I like the idea of being up at 5am drinking my tea and whisky, sorting out my paperwork on the kitchen table, with one of these hissing gently nearby. Like camping. Well, boating is camping, just in a steel box instead of a flappy nylon tent.
All together now: ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss (sound of gas lantern)

Yes the hiss is rather nice. I remember that when I used camping gaz lights as a kid when camping in the estate grounds far away from the main house.
