He was still earning his living with his tug, towing and pushing, and for jobs that were too big just for his tug, he used his barge too. I'll try to find a picture of such a job in a moment. Peter.

Here is a photo of his tug as the stern-tug of a pretty big tow job of a paddlesteamer with his big barge as front tow Another rather delicate tow job with a racing Trimaran "Pierre 1" that belonged to Florence Arthaud, a famous French record sailing woman that sadly lost her life in a helicopter accident in 2015 Towing job through Paris "Mutin" a small but hard working Tug. Peter.

As we haven't seen any nice tugs for a while, I'll try to post a few photos of a tug that belongs to a friend who had an accident about 2 months ago. When he came out of a lock on the Seine, a big barge that followed him run over his tug and sunk it, him and a girlfriend managed to get out and swim ashore, the boat is a wreck now. Supposedly there's € 200.000 needed to restore the boat to it's former glory, and it's by no means sure that the insurance is ready to pay. A very sad story. A newspaper article about the boat: www.leparisien.fr/le-coudray-montceaux-91830/essonne-un-bateau-echoue-au-coudray-montceaux-27-08-2018-7867080.phpPeter. nice boat. Scary story. What was this "big barge"? Is there a French equivalent to the MAIB who would have put a report online about the accident?

I hope the insurance cough up for your friend oeter. So far they haven't Kris, and it's still by no means sure if they'll ever come up with the € 200.000 that all the reparares to the damage after the sinking will cost, as everything needs to be redone, damage to the hull repared, engine, electricity, all the panelling, the beautiful wooden wheelhouse etc. I don't think that you'll be surprised if I tell you that he's terribly depressed because of this situation, and on top of that he can't tow anymore right now. Peter.

So he needs compensating for loss of earnings as well as putting his boat to back as before. Insurance is legalised robbery as far as I'm concerned.

What was this "big barge"? Is there a French equivalent to the MAIB who would have put a report online about the accident? It sure is a scary story (much more scary than a tattood bloke) The big barge is named "RENNE" and that is what they call a "Automoteur Chaland de la Seine" built in 1951 next to Rouan 43M x 6M65. You can see the frame on the back cabin of the "Renne" that is there to make sure that the tow rope isn't going to get stuck to anything while towing, as these barges were towing non-motorised barges behind them in the past, and are equipped with a towing hook too. Here's another nice photo of the "Mutin" in a dry-dock a couple of years ago AFAIK, there is no French equivalent to the MAIB. Peter.

Thanks Peter Looking at the tug "Mutin" I suspect the owner may have expressed a similar word but starting with a P when he realised the barge was onto his vessel ! Putain ! Eta what a beast that barge is. I love photos from that angle of real boats out of the water.

I'm lucky that I wasn't on board the "Mutin" when this tragical accident happened, so I don't know what he said, but it could have been something like that . Peter.
