Tradline Ropes are always good. I always bought from them (Pete Flockhart, Tradline Fenders at Braunston) but I never went for the black ones only the hardy hemp type. The company is fine, it's just if you want those types of rope. Roger

I bought a 100m bobbin of synth-hemp, 16mm for about £120 and cut and spliced it myself. Also made some of the soft shackles that look to accompany the rope you suggested. They are great, easy and quick to use.

Just by the by, but we carry a load of para-cord (chord - hmmm I doubt that's right) as a "back up" in case some scrote cuts our ropes... it's pretty strong and can hold the boat safely ashore in "normal" conditions... better than northing Handy hint - roll it into a ball (like string) BEFORE you need it or untangling it can be a real pain in the arse. When coiling the rope and your winding it into loops you should be getting figure of 8’s, and not 0’s. Most people twist the rope to get nice loops but this is what tangles the rope. Nice video showing..

Some good tips here. If you have a heavier/longer non traditional rope you could use the climbers method which does the same thing.
