Image (which is not mine) is several decades old and both the bridge and the lock are under construction/recently completed at the time. A coconut for whoever gets the road name and canal name. I will acknowledge the copyright on the image later.

Pity they didn't put one of these in for Derby canal when the M1 was getting built. It would stand more chance of being put back into water now if they had.

Pity they didn't put one of these in for Derby canal when the M1 was getting built. It would stand more chance of being put back into water now if they had. If there is a bridge of some sort in existence all be it a very low one it would be quite straight forward to get around such an obstacle without disturbing the motorway too much if you think about it. Just place a lock either side to lower the waterway to pass under in a deep trench and re raise it at the other side. Expensive though which means it's unlikely to happen. If it required a new bridge to be constructed to carry the motorway then it's never going to happen in this day and age I would suggest. A bit like Tewitfield on the Lancaster.
