It sounds all rather dodgy, but if they're prepared to give you some more info, and a proof of ownership, it could still be a good boat.
Peter Nicholls used to build good boats, but they always need good owners too, to maintain them during their lives.
It's clear that the work has been done to make the boat more attactive to sell, and as is now, this boat would surely satisfy many potential buyers.
Peter.

If you took photos of the boat (and there are photos in the Ebay advert anyway), surely people on Canalworld recognise the boat? How about asking over there? Was there not a number on the side? CRT would then know something of this boat (unless it's EA or Bridgewater). Our boat was a private sale but we knew (still do) the previous owner, and the boat came with it's history, service history, etc. and I even contacted the previous owners who sent me photos of it when they had it. sorry, plus they wouldn't let me take photos of the boat..

Some good points, but seeing it in the flesh is a different story, decent bit of work inside and out to get it up to scratch, can't see them geting the asking price for what needs to be done, eg look at the bathroom by the shower, there are two electric outlets, wiring throughout the boat isn't good, neither is a lot of the wood work, pigeon holes are rotting as the wood is soft, bedroom is 5ft long, its a real bad fit out and needs work and my offer reflected this, but worth a look..

Yes, I agree - if you count the square and round windows. We paid 18,000 for ours, 18,000 for this looks reasonable if the hull is OK and the engine is OK. It could indeed be a good buy, but you can't buy a boat without the insurance details, hull survey paperwork, BSS paperwork, CRT registration details, service history paperwork, etc.
Ours was 18,000 + 6,000 for the engine renovation + lots & lots for all kinds of various stuff such as paint, the new name, new bow flashes, vacuum cleaner, new boat pole, fridge, bed - and 3 years hard labour to get it up to scratch. Dry dock, blacked it ourselves, new tiller shaft and bearing, all seams re-welded. Looking back, we were mad to buy a boat - and all I get is abuse from andyberg on here. What a life!

Stove and background in ebay ad... Stove and background in Boatshed ad... It even has the same companion set, in the same place, and the same lamp in the same place, to the right of the flue.

The fact that it isn't displaying licence plates, or a licence, or a name, and the vendors aren't prepared to give you any of this information rings enormous alarm bells with me. I mean, if the boat was yours to sell then why would giving a prospective buyer basic identification be such a secret? You wouldn't buy a car if it had no number plates on it and the seller refused to show you the log book.

If you saw the BSS, then that will have registration details on it.

add has been removed. off the market. No, the ebay ad is still running, the Boatshed ad is from the last time it was sold. I'm not sure of the date the ad appeared, but it states the boat had a BSS expiry date of October 2014, so sometime before that. I sent the seller a message through ebay, New message to: rawson716 Full Name: xxxxxxx xxxxxxxx Country: United Kingdom Primary Telephone: xxxxx xxxxxx Secondary Telephone: xxxxx xxxxxx Best time to call: 0900-1700 --------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I'm looking for a narrowboat to live aboard and this looks like it might be good, can you provide any ID details such as the name and registration number of the boat? Thanks in advance. If I get a reply, I'll post it here.
