I did inquire about a mooring at Fazeley Mill but nobody ever got back to me and Kings Orchard had a space coming vacant at just the right time so I bagged it while I had the chance. I’ve only paid up front for a 3 month initial stay so I can always move if I find the commute a problem. Having looked at the Fazeley moorings online the thought of tying to back the boat down those narrow spaces between the piers to moor up put me off a little as well ...... The narrow spaces are easy. You just guide yourself along the other boats. It's the wide open spaces where REAL embarassment is possible. Rog It’s easy if there are 2 of you, one in the bow fending off, less easy if just one (unless you have that girly invention of the devil). On the few occasions I’ve done it solo, I have kissed the bow off other moored boats, although folk don’t seem to mind too much. I guess it depends on how often you intend to go out solo.

Just a thought but we’re at Fazeley Mill, the sister marina of King’s Orchard. Walkable to the train station (15 mins or so) - though I think you have to go via New St? And by car down to the Belfry roundabout, on to the M42 etc, or “back road” A446 if the motorway is clogged. In other words, a shorter commute. They/we are a friendly lot at FMM with a lot of live aboards. Walkable to Ventura for all the shopping you could want, very short walk to several pubs, takeaways and a Tesco Express in Fazeley. There’s a bit of mixing of staff, John the Irishman tends to work in both places so you could ask him, alternatively just go round and speak to Jackie or Ruth.

Yes I can understand that thought...I found reversing tad challenging...harnessing a son so much easier. ...trouble was he could only spare as and when time in between his oh so busy life...

Thanks all, I’ll be coming past Fazeley in a few days time if I survive the Tardebigge Flight and don’t get lost in the center of Birmingham 😳 I can stop and have a look at the marina first hand then.

Well, one thing I’ll say from early exposure to this forum is threads certainly take on a life all of their own. I’m a member of several car and bike related forums and I’ve never seen a new members thread hit 5 pages before. I’m still in single figures on the post count and I’ve been called a spy, a twat and I’ve called someone a knob........ This is nearly as exciting as Seloc (lotus cars forum) when people start arguing about which model of Elise is the best 😂 I thought canal folk would be all quiet polite and inoffensive .......
