Evidently, part of the l&l has just breached. On the 27 mile pound.. That's a long pound. And where be it? Maybe read the posts after the one you have quoted? It always pays to read to the end of a thread.

I think most other countries would look after the waterways much better than they are getting looked after in the uk at the moment.

What else would you expect with people at the top that aren't interested for one bit in what they should do, their huge wages are coming in with- or without doing what they get paid for.
If they don't spend money on maintenance, there will be more money left to be paid to them in bonusses, for their very succesfully having done nothing useful.
It's as easy as that.
Peter.

Unfortunately Peter it is as easy as that. I know that of two potential breaches on the Leeds and Liverpool that cart are aware of, if money was spent now preventing them then it would be cheaper than dealing with the breaches when they happen.

Shit doesn't look like nicks going to Liverpool then. Yes, . . it's a shame it had to happen now, instead of after he got there ! My only consolation in having to share this forum with you is that you are very old and will likely be dead soon.

That's not very nice Nick, you know where to go if you don't like sharing the forum with opinions that differ from your own.

It would be insufferably dull otherwise. But if someone wishes me misfortune, guess what, I’m going to wish them misfortune in return. As would you.

I think there's a little bit of difference between wishing someone dead, and someone having a giggle because someone else is going to have alter the cruising plans

I think most other countries would look after the waterways much better than they are getting looked after in the uk at the moment. I was reading somewhere that the French waterways wasnt getting the funding required either That's true Peter, they're having a problem in keeping the less-or not more commercially used canals open, and they're asking the departments where these canals are to help with the funding of the maintenance cost, as the tourists that are still playing on these canals are bringing in (a lot) money in the local businesses, like restaurants, bars and foodstores.
If that doesn't work out, then some of the lesser used canals will have to close down.
After the floodings we've had in France, there has been a lot of damage to locks- weirs and river-and canal banks, in which more than the available budget has disappeared, and they also loose fortunes in endless completely unneccesary lobying, that make available budgets for certain jobs vanish before anything is done in just only talking about it.
Peter.

But I didn’t wish him dead, I merely pointed out he would be dead soon which is a fact of life (or death). Whereas he wished the breach had happened so as to trap us in Liverpool. There was only one person wishing bad things to happen to the other.
