I do worry that crt will just fuck everything up that bad they will get the boot, the government steps in and declares certain canals are to far gone to save and lets them fall into disrepair, how many will we lose... The C&RT controlled canals and navigations have already fallen into disrepair and, truth to tell, we 'lost' the lot on the day C&RT was conceived. Back in, I think it was 1968, BWB produced a report titled "The Facts about the Waterways" dealing with each canal and river navigation separately giving a cost breakdown of three options for their future - 1) Maintain in navigable condition, 2) Convert to water/drainage channels or 3) Eliminate completely. No prizes for predicting which one of those 50 year old options is going to be resurrected once Parry and Co. have finished doing their worst.

I'm inclined think that Tellysmackarse should be congratulated for being honest enough to nail his true colours to the mast, . . but best of all is the satisfaction derived from knowing that I've got under his skin quite so much ! Still alive then? So it would appear, . . and I see you're still busy spouting more of your customary twaddle over on Arseholeworld as well. How does the closure of Marsh Lock at Weston Point prevent boats getting to Liverpool via Ellesmere Port and Eastham, or Salford and Eastham ?

Oh well maybe next year, if they get the crowd funding started soon enough. Yeah, suck it up and get in line - the Middlewich breach comes first. Didn't they say they'd start sometime around Christmas? The Witch just told me how she'd do the Middlewich breach but I said no, that is too simple and would do the sub-contractors out of all that lolly and dressing up in hard hats to look macho. Finns would have had it sorted in the blink of an eye. The current situation really is pathetic and makes one embarrassed to be British. 'Suck it up & get in line'.Thank you for such a kind hearted comment.I feel that I may need to give you a good slapping if we ever meet...

I think the "good bits" will get sold off to marina owners at some point and the bad bits" will be allowed to fall into disrepair. I mean not navigable even by 'fusiasts rather than just generally run down. I don't really mind a slightly nackered canal system as it's more honest than a shiny all singing all dancing thing. It seems more honest but it still requires general maintenance. There does not seem to be anything more positive coming.

A C&RT volockie was telling me in April that lock staff at Barrowford locks having been reporting leakage into farmers fields for years, but no action has been taken.
What price a similar situatiin at Maghul/ Melling.
Sorry you people planning trips to Liverpool. It's a blow to have your plans trashed.
But I understand some homes have sustained water damage, which is a worse blow.

Well one thing is for sure, regardless of motives, if there aren’t enough interested parties to keep the system intact for boating, we are all buggered.
As I’ve said many times before, if volunteers could renevate the system years ago, how hard can it be to maintain the system?... especially with the budget CRT have.
If Jenlyn is right about less than 25% of their budget being spent on maintenance, then that won’t help either.
The trouble is, like many other ‘old school’ interests, there seem to be less and less youngsters getting involved. They are the future, so if they aren’t inspired then I can’t see things getting better.

I've just had an email from C&RT (assume everyone has) saying they've managed to dam the canal, and work is ongoing to sort out the culvert. More updates to follow.

We seem to be short on details with this latest breach. What details do you need? Hole in canal has took away the water, most of it going into farmers fields and houses. CRT have released a stoppage alert, then continued to be quite about it on social media. Sure they will blame something else and then send out the begging bucket. North and south divide??? surely not!

So it would appear, . . and I see you're still busy spouting more of your customary twaddle over on Arseholeworld as well. How does the closure of Marsh Lock at Weston Point prevent boats getting to Liverpool via Ellesmere Port and Eastham, or Salford and Eastham ? I’ve no idea? Why would you think it did. I appreciate that you eyes are dim with age but FYI the thread was entitled “The NW is closed” and last time I looked, Weston Point was in the North West. But perhaps you struggle with the points of the compass? The thread was not entitled “Oooh good, some people are stuck in Liverpool and others can’t get there. What a laugh!” which is no doubt what it would have been called if you’d started it.
