That’s 3 biking deaths in the family. You’d think it might put folk off!

Source: Women's Weekly magazine The Dunlop's are a motorcycling dynasty like no other - it's probably fair to say that no one on here has bollocks as big as those guys. Lumping them in with the dickhead power rangers is a bit poor to say the least 🔨🔨🔨👿 A family no stranger to loosing it's men folk to the god of speed. However when you are young and with 2 kids (one unborn I think) I don’t think “died doing something he loved” really cuts it. Better to do stuff you love that doesn’t involve dying, at least until you have made the best use of most of your life.

My first career was in hospital laboratories (I have a Fellowship in Haematology) and I have spent more nights than I care to remember crossmatching blood, checking clotting profiles and supplying clotting products for people who have come a cropper on their motorbikes. Whilst I admire their skill and bravado, I have to agree it is self indulgent to pursue this (or any other life threatening sport) when you have a young family. Pride in your Dad is a poor substitute for his presence and support when you’re growing up.

Yes, but the bottom line is that he knew the risks involved in motorcycle racing, chose to accept those risks, and didn't ask you to live his life for him.

But is he a hero when he has terminated his life in a foreseeable and in fact probable way, despite his young family, or is he a bit irresponsible and selfish? It’s not all about him!

The Dunlop family is a motorcycle racing dynasty. No doubt his children will die the same way in 20 years time. I personally don't understand the attraction of being a sausage-rider, but I'm not so arrogant as to suggest other folk shouldn't do it.

I can't seem to find the answer however. Is motorbike racing that dangerous. I.e how many fatal accidents are that? Is someone as likely to die driving to the shops for instance?
there is probably as much chance me dieing on the roads on my bicycle, does that make me selfish?
