canalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/13500/rochdale-canal-between-lock-1-and-tuel-lockcanalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/13501/rochdale-canal-between-locks-7-and-11COULD this be as a result of my "tweets" to them today asking WHY they didn't put a notice up yesterday at lock 1 in Sowerby Bridge?... it took us all afternoon to get to Luddendford (however it's spelled)... and 7 hours today to get from there to Hebden bridge... spending 2 hours sitting on the bottom on several occasions whilst the poor crt chap tried to run water down and balance resources. ffs, if there is no water - OR badly managed water... it's a stoppage.... STOP the politics and say it as it is. We're going to sleep on it to decide whether try and carry on over to Manchester or give in, spend a week here and hope for some rain to get us back to base. The bottom gate of lock 7 barlely closes so no wonder there is no water! grrrrr..

The whole of the Rochdale Canal should be filled in and have branches of McDonalds, Kwik-Fit and Costa Coffee built on it. If an Act of God stops you having to go through Failsworth, Newton Heath and Miles Platting, then fall to your knees and give thanks. If not, say hello to the mattress for me.

We had a similar experience a week ago, almost seven hours from Tuel Lane to Hebden Bridge. We got stuck 4 times before Luddenden Foot and nowhere to turn around. The boater in front damaged a blade on the prop and the resident boats at Hebden Bridge were listing due to the lack of water. Our friends notified CRT that it was not fit to travel but no CRT notifications were issued following this.
Not a pleasant experience for our maiden voyage!

Seriously, Ginge - sorry KeySlider - we had much the same through Brum a couple of weeks ago - literally dragging the bottom and pushing on lock after lock chasing water.
With the heat and all we were well done in (knackered in TB speak) so greatly relieved to see a bunch of vollies at the top of Hatton
- but they were painting and told us we MUST NOT walk across the gates as they'd just painted them...
and she was FIERCE - so I did as instructed as long as we were in sight ....
Good luck - it's getting scary out here ...!!!

Sorry I called you Dogless and no offence to you Dogless. Yes, we were returning from HB and coming down the Rochdale was much easier but still hit the bottom badly between bridges No.2 and 3 at Sowerby Bridge.

several times today, we got stuck fast and no amount of rocking or poling would free us... only was was to "move water" from up hill. oddly enough, once I'd tweeted crt a couple of times, things started to happen. It's a shame - I hate crt bashing as thus far, we've had great help and support on the ground... but none of us have enjoyed our boating today and thats a first ever - even in bad weather. :-(

Its all wrong. If they were given carpets would they brush everything under them.

There was a contractor there when we went through instructing folk on how to open and close it. Seemed OK??

it's been a farce from start to Almost finish... was supposed to be done 22nd Jan... and they've been buggering about with it since. basically, its SO well balanced now, that people are pushing it TOO hard and it bounces back and knocks them over lol.
NO one wanted the fecking thing but rules is rules - apparently.

Back to Hebden Bridge, if you decide to turn around, check with CRT about the 2 winding holes upstream of HB as they were full of crud and not navigable. We were advised by a boater and Bronte boat company to turn at the winding hole at HB visitor moorings.

I'm deeply offended that you would confuse me with Mark. He's ginger for a start. He's taller than me, younger than me, better looking than me, more athleticly built than me..... Actually forget that. I'm quite flattered Rog

Well I think you are all being damned unreasonable! come on, expecting water in a canal when the poor overstretched CRT has got better things like poetry, duck lanes and all that new signage to pay for plus all those shiny new management posts. You guys need to get your priorities sorted
