Surely if cart are promoting the use of the towpaths to so many people using them in such varied ways they should provide facilities for them? It's okay having thousands of more visitors/users on the waterways, but where are all the extra bins? Or where are the toilets for the general public to use? If it was any other "attraction" it would have to provide adequate facilities before being allowed to open.

Are you suggesting that CRT should spend money on more bins for non-boaters plus emptying them and toilets primarily for non-boaters use?

I'm suggesting that cart should spend money on providing adequate facilities for the visitors they are trying to attract through spending money on advertising.

Have you phoned to Richard Parry on this one, Kris? Send him an e-mail "Moaner's Update". I'm just trying to provoke some debate about the issues foxy. i find that more interesting than links to pointless dailymail articles etc!

There is a limited pot of money. I would prefer it to be spent on stuff to make the canals better for boaters, rather than on facilities for walkers and fishermen.
Foxy likes this. Dogless likes this. Even Jenlyn likes this - god help me! In fact everyone on TB likes this.

They need to provide shovels and bin bags to deal with all the folk who explode with happiness.

Yes of course we would all rather more money was spent on maintenance, but under this current regime it isn't going to happen. So your argument is a bit simplistic for some one who thinks himself clever. If you think foxy and Jim liking something makes it right well your more deluded than they are.

I noticed on the most recent boater's update, that C&RT are pushing how much they've spent on maintenance. I took this as an indication that C&RT have at least heard the complaints being voiced, and are 'fighting back'. But of course, shouting that £125 million has been committed to maintenance means nothing if that sum is less than a quarter of the available budget. You are spot on kris. If a proportion of the available funds is being targeted at 'canal users' other than boaters (the relaunch budget as a minimum, and hands up all those who STILL believe it's £60,000) then appropriate facilities SHOULD be provided and financed. My hope is that C&RT will hear the criticisms of their management, and seek to fight back by correcting their oversights/neglect with a flurry of maintenance spending over the next 12/18 months. Well, I did say it was my hope Rog

Where's all the extra parking for all of the extra visitors? As I say no other attraction would be allowed to open without having adequate facilities.
