I saw a C&RT alert recently 'reminding' everyone that wide beams had to book passage through the tunnels. Do you by any chance know what if anything prompted such a reminder? Rog You always get the odd Muppet taking a chance, and I suspect one or two have tried darting through without booking. I've never heard anyone admit to, or seen one doing it, so I'm a bit cynical of the statements. There is a campaign by the local busybody to stop widebeams completely, or charge them for her services of providing assistance. I guess faking a few incidents would help her cause.

Chris will like it, and they usually have evening entertainment in the boat yard. Ok, I’m not sure Chris is into swing but I’ll check.. ...nope...she’s more into Perry Como. Yep, sounds perfect... There is beer also 😉

A mate was briefly held up one morning two or three weeks ago as a wide beam came through.
He said that the couple who stopped him had no uniform or obvious C&RT identification, and he wondered if it was a DIY passage.
Of course, provided there are persons present at the opposite end and in communication with the boat, I don't suppose any harm's done.

Passage is between 8 to 9 am.

I'm okay with Blissworth and indeed all tunnels except Harecastle.
Hate the middle section of that one where the roof dips down.

It's fine South to North. Both tunnels are nice and clear that time of day as well, no smog from boats.

My record for Braunston is passing five opposing boats in there.
Wide beams at least don't have to contend with that.
But I have watched wide beams in tunnels and thought it must be quite a trial of concentration, particularly the twist in Braunston.

Rog I got backache going through Standedge tunnel but it was well worth it. It’s like life and death...conceptually the hope of coming out of the other side of the tunnel between life and death. True story this. We took Chris’s 90 year old mum through Blisworth tunnel. We sat her on a comfortable chair under the cratch cover. She had cancer at the time. I found it very moving. She fortunately recovered. Conversely, every time I go through a tunnel with Chris, I always say to her it’s akin to the life most sperm have in slow motion. ...there is no hope for me...

The water displacement from the bow hits the walls and helps keep the boat straight.
