I may have to line out a cabin (not a big one) in ply panels. I've bodged things now and then before but never been quite sure what screws to use.
What are the best screws to use ?
Mild, stainless, brass, with or without cups, do I need to line up all the slots, pozidrive, square head or star. Gold plated maybe?
Too much choice. Or should I nail it. Or sika flex etc.
If screws how long and what gauge

Stick panels to struts with no nails type goo, edge with solid oak trim (routed to add a bit of class), not cheapo MFI imitation mdf shite. Drill sunken holes to correct depth with forstner bit, screw to stud with correct sized brass screw for job, Fill hole with oak bung, chop flush with razor sharp chisel and sand to suit... Any other way looks, fits and is actual shit! Or just bodge with rusty screws with a mix of crosshead, flathead and rounded phillips heads and manky cheapo brass cups so you can sit looking at it for next 30 years thinking 'that really was a completely shit job I did there! I have a feeling I know which route you'll takeπ³ππ

Glue up the panels with a few nails or screws to hold it while the glue sets, cover your good or crap panel fitting and screws with oak edging glued and pin gunned. Oil it up with Osmo Polyx Oil.
Then run for it.

there is no need to use rusty screws for attaching anything to something...I have large selection of screws that belonged to dad and some I tidied away as the workmen renovated the house...they will all soon need another owner...

I'm just glad andyberg is predicting I'll still be on the boat when I'm 74.
That's cool.

Its a kind offer. However as I understand it (I don't) the traditional technique is to make an approach and ask "would you like to have a screw?" then according to the reaction you can consider offering more or withdrawing the offer. That's the great thing about screws. Nobody actually needs them so its all optional. One of the obvious problems with Old Git screws is that they are rather unreliable. In addition they may not work properly, could well be worn out and consist of multiple types. For this reason I would probably have to refuse the offer of your fathers old screws. If you deliver them in person then I may be able to accept the offer.

On hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie went straight to her grandparent's house to visit her 95 year old grandmother and comfort her. When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, "He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning." Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that 2 people nearly 100 years old having sex would surely be asking for trouble. "Oh no, my dear, " replied granny. "Many years ago, realising our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring. It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong." She paused, wiped away a tear and then continued, "And if that damned ice cream van hadn't come along, he'd still be alive today!"

I was wondering if you'd forgotten to write "the occasional rusty bent nail" in the list of possible fixings, as they always show how much love went into the job

I really liked his description and photos.
It was quality. Some people can do better but I would suspect that more do a lot worse.
A bit like his scum bling.

Old git screws sounds like a porno film for senior citizens... Not that this fact is remotely related to what you've written but your words reminded me.. Met a 'personal trainer' in Sweden...glorious to look at..the rippling muscles, fairly young etc...anyway got chatting..as I do with random strangers and he told me his career was running boot camps for the over 70's in the summer holidays...apparently the up take high and there are now groups of older people embracing the fitness trend...Imagine all that lycra holding in all those wrinkly runners... In 9 years time I shall be old enough to join the elite fitness group of elderly aged ones...
