I would love an engineer to try and explain to me, how the hell it is possible to leave both sets of gates open in a lock.
In fact I would love anybody to try and explain to me, how the hell it is possible to leave both sets of gates open in a lock.

Thank you very much jenlyn that email seems to have reached his inbox. I wonder if he'll go on annual leave? That's what most of them seem to do when you ask awkward questions.

If both gates, top and bottom, were open, then all the boats in Aqueduct Marina would have ended up sitting on the bottom. Did this happen? Aqueduct Marina is along the next upper pound, between Stanthorne Lock and Minshull Lock.

It is a pity they didn't have any of that waterproof membrane that is under the temporary road in the bank it would have kept the water in.

You know like British Waterways Board managed to do in six weeks all those years ago !!! (edited, as children may be reading) (and those of a sensitive nature) We all know the answer - it's the Gravy Train - the opportunity to make a Money Mountain out of a small molehill. Actually, now I have a suspect, it was that water vole we saw last year at Wardle Lock, remember him? Digging holes and making the whole embankment unstable. Anyway, this breach was just crying out for Big Drama (I'm surprised they haven't made a television series out of it) and the need to call in the Big Companies with Big Machines so that the blokes playing with them can look like Big Men and take home Huge Wage Packets. Behind it all, the Government/tax payers are paying for it all, right? Just like HS2, another excuse to make Loads-A-Money. The construction/repair companies involved - were the contracts for all this put out to tender? If so, the firms offering it for cheapest got the work, is that right? Or, who decided who to employ (which sub-contractors)? Who stands to gain?
