This reminds me of a bit of kit some think essential. An anorak! Foxy must be single handedly keeping the oil and antifreeze industry going with the frequency of his changes 👍😂 Well, I was reading a bit about how to dispose of our old antifreeze. There really aren't any close-by Household Waste places along the Shropshire Union. Anyway, that's a bit of nonsense, when we took our last 20 litres of old coolant to the dump in Skipton in Summer the man just said "put it in the chemical cupboard". How do they know what it is? Even if we had a label, how can you know that's the truth? What if we had written 'Novichok' on it? Half the people in the UK haven't even heard of Novichok. I have come to the conclusion that I will go and ask at a car garage if they will take ours, as car maintenance shops must change coolant in cars now & then and probably have containers for the stuff. How is the waste processed? I have no knowledge of that. I bet many boaters just chuck it in the canal, but we like to think of ourselves as environmentally friendly and will at first endeavour to do what deems to be right.

Have you ever thought that the first rule should be 'don't throw out stuff that hasn't passed it's useful by date'?

I would humbly suggest that vehicle service agents most probably put engine coolant into the surface drainage system. Oil needs to go somewhere else but I find it moderately improbable that vehicle service agents add to their overheads by having used engine coolant storage tanks. Could be wrong

Yes, but I generally go by "change it before it needs changing, so you don't have to change it when you really need to but can't!"
I like to keep things 'shipshape' and keep lists of when things were changed, such as the headlight bulb on our boat (yes, we have a new spare), the light bulbs in our house and in our car and in my bus. If something does 'go' it will probably have been something beyond my control. I like to keep all of the maintenance chores 'done and dusted' so that we can concentrate on holidaying and enjoying the scenery. I've been typing out the list of things I should be doing in the first few days of our Xmas trip, as I am forgetful and absent-minded and find 'things to do' lists helpful in jogging my memory; and I could do it now as we bought our plane tickets today and so can start working out our Cunning Plan.
By the way, the 'fair fares' structure for the railways has not been introduced as promised. It's £26.30 Stafford to Manchester Airport (via Piccadilly) if you buy a 'straight through' ticket like that, but £5.80 Stafford to Manchester Piccadilly + £2.90 Piccadilly to MIA (Manchester Airport) which = £8.70 altogether.
Oops! Gotta dash! It's 10pm and I turn into a pumpkin if I'm not in bed by then!!

So do you log how many hours a bulb has been switched on and then replace it after x hours whether it has blown or not?

So do you log how many hours a bulb has been switched on and then replace it after x hours whether it has blown or not? Not hours, but years. Generally replace vehicle bulbs (brake/back sidelight - front sidelight - headlamps if H4/H7) once a year around October (before Winter). Bulbs in house when they're a year or two (maximum) old. Although now these new type of bulbs have come in, the old tungsten-filament ones you can't buy in the shops any more, and these new ones are supposed to have guarantees of 7 years. It's always better to change things before they 'go' at your own leisure. Which is why we're replacing tarpaulins over our stacks of logs this afternoon, before Winter is upon us (snowed last week, but now has melted).

My car is 7 years old, we have had it from new, I have never replaced a lamp on it. By your reckoning I should have used 14 lamps to date - my method of waiting for them to shit themselves means i have so far replaced exactly 0 Writing that has all but guaranteed a lamp will fail. I have adopted the same procedure with all my vehicles - in 22 years across scores of cars, vans and motorbikes I've replaced only a handful of headlight, turn and stop tail lamps. BTW, bulbs are what you put in the ground - plants grow from them, they are piss all use in a vehicles lighting system

Not very Eco friendly and green, changing stuff before it breaks or stops working. Best to use it up. Just carry a spare till then or repair it. Heckilopters are different, as they well understand in Leicester.

Anyway, what kind of rich twat has to show off he has a helicopter? Why didn't he go to Leicester by train?
