Anyone care to suggest a search term for what I'm looking for...
Want something (better than the bit of cardboard currently utilised for a bit of privacy). Bungs don't work as have secondary glazing that is more or less flush with cabin sides. Wood around porthole has 4 studs attached, looking for something that will attach to the studs, either clip on or via elastic cords, best I've come up with so far is buying some bungs and stapling some elastic cords to allow them to be held in place. Any thoughts...

Velcro adhesive strips either side, and a 'blind' which you can pop up or take down as you wish.
For 'blind' read a bit of lined cloth of your choice with velcro strips on.

I use polystyrene pizza bases with a Velcro dot in middle of glass and corresponding one in middle of pizza base.
They let light in so if its a nice sunny day its pleasant. Also if the pizza base is a bit smaller than the glass you can retain privacy but have a little sneaky look out through the gap and also get the sun in through the gap. Sun is good. Portholes are okay but I don't like to totally block them from a light transmission point of view.

no because polystyrene does not absorb scents.

Tesco iirc
Not sure it may have been waitrose. And I think its the cheap frozen ones in shrink wrap that have the poly bases. Some of the others have cardboard. Worth checking as it would be unwise to buy a pizza then throw it overboard for the fish just to get a porthole blocker only to find its cardboard !

Never fear the pizza will end up mostly in the mutt - that's as long as she doesn't get seasick again...... (bit worried about that but time will tell)...

lol - they worked out about 80 quid but still going strong (although they could do with better quality hinges for them)

We were all 11" portholes and I simply put a small hook either side and then hung curtain using 3mm shock cord passed through a sewn hem. The curtains were made by Chris from linen napkins from Concorde (classy eh?) They were just the right size and just hung. Meant you could easily move or lift to check on outside. In the morning we just unhooked and stored on the bed. Phil

As a temporary measure we used foam gym mat that had a 'boiler plate' pattern. Cut them in circles and then in half. They fit perfectly into the water groove and being in halves still let you open the top half. They are light, easy to store and waterproof so we have in fact kept them cos they work! The mat was new but cost £2 from a charity shop!!
