Some els an disposal facilities have transfer pumps which can not deal with any sort of "wipes" and my personal view is that they also can not deal with heavy toilet paper. When I suggested this to someone who regularly had to deal with a failed elsan pump he just said "well you can't really tell people what to wipe their arse with". Fair enough. The worst things are flushable wipes. A bit of a random situation but I was down near Dartford (Crayford creek) on foot fairly recently and have first hand visual of the "flushable wipe" problem. This was just one random day a few weeks ago. Photo is of some sort of drainage overflow. Not nice All part of an oil based economy. Maybe once we get a Lithium based economy we can look forward to a better future but with less ecosystems. That looks like a 'Consented Overflow', Consented to let untreated foul water into watercourses to eliviate flooding people's houses with shity water. And to think sea toilets get a bad rap.

Any ordinary toilet will do, but as I said, take a couple of 5 litre water containers along to flush the cassettes. There are many toilets available at CRT Headquarters in Milton Keynes, just pop along there with the mobile bog in your hand. I understand Mr Parry's throne is gold-plated. Contents deposited at Apsley shortly after CRT contractors emptied/sorted the elsan there this morning!

I spent a lot of time around berko in the early O0s and had an elsan but never realised there was an emptying point there. I used BW facilities Cow roast and Apsley.
As an aside just thought it worth mentioning that the term "Elsan" comes from the Spanish resort "El Puerto d'el San" where you can see shits in the sea water.

Judging by what floated by me today I suspect some muddy ditch dwellers have resorted to multiple sea toilets - not quiet the view I was expecting as I showed the parents around the boat for the first time!

Nah, that will be those that empty their thunderboxes or buckets straight into the cut. Manual sea toilets will mush the turds enough for them to sink, can’t do much with the tissue but that sinks as well - in clear water the tissue can be seen. macerating toilets pulp it all up and it’s never seen again - what the eye doesn’t see the heart won’t grieve over

Also you sometimes get algae that looks like floating shit. One of things about solid turds is they do not always float. It depends on the diet.
If you see what appears to be floating faeces in the water then do not assume that it is a) shit or b) boaters doing it.
It could be innocent. It would need closer investigation before forming conclusions based on pre-existing prejudices.

Talking to boaters locally 3 out of 4 local elsans are closed at the moment and have been for about two weeks. The one that's open can no longer be accessed by car, because someone bought the lock cottage and somehow got the car park with boaters facilities in locked. So if the situation doesn't change before the river levels rise, there will be a lot of people emptying their loos into the water. Now someone tell me maintenance isn't declining.

So anyway.
Can you burn the compost ? I firmly believe there is a lot of potential for shit burning. Once the moisture is driven off (by drying) the constituent parts seem to lend themselves to being used for heating.
