I have been looking around for a new 24v 1.5 Kw inverter and came across this outfit. They don't seem to do 24v inverters but their range of 12v caught my eye. The prices seem very low ..... almost worryingly so. As far as I can see a lot of their other stuff seems cheap as well. I was just wondering if anyone had come across them www.renytek.co.uk/12v-pure-sine-wave-inverters

Not those exactly John - but mine is a similarly cheap Chinese 2kW PSW at £249. It works fine, but has a centre-tapped earth, so all the neutrals in your boat's mains outlets are sort of half-live. It is causing a few weird effects on my DC USB charger sockets too.
I'd much rather pay more for one with an earth-neutral bond, which is what you get (after a fashion) in domestic AC stuff.

thanks for that loafer, I don't want to have to go digging in and modifying a new bit of kit. As I said they don't seem to do a 24v one any way I had actually been looking at this outfit www.sunshinesolar.co.uk/prodshow/1500W___24V_Pure_Sine_Wave_Sunshine_Power_Inverter/VP150024.htmlwhich seemed to be much more about the price I was expecting to pay. I need to upgrade from my existing 1Kw unit and I have been toying with the idea of getting solar so I was trying to get some idea of costs

(Being a victron fan, I don't tend to stray), but that unit was good, and I was suitably impressed.

The fan seems to be on a lot of the time. Don't forget the £9 postage.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I guess I had already decided on the Sunshinesolar as a better bet, but it was nice to hear good reports about them.
If I do decide to jump in the solar power direction, I will be back asking some more questions
(I might have an electrical/electronic background but I have never had dealings with solar power)
There is no substitute for practical experience !!!

Think MPPT when you go shopping. They are VASTLY superior than the cheap 'on/off' types and most have multi-stage battery charging outputs. Even better, go for the Tracer which allows you to adjust the charging voltages for a 'custom' battery. Great in the winter. I can't remember the model number but I'll look it up later. On the move at the mo just approaching Ely.

I'm guessing that our return through Littleport will be in around 7-10 day's time. Our only aim is to get to Houghton to take a family boating and sink a few ales. I'll be sure to message you here with an estimate later!
