Ashby canal is closed from jan 9th to end of March, repairs to bramcote bridge.
stupid Ashby hire boats hitting it and the odd piss taking truck driver ignoring the weight limit have caused a fair bit damage that requires fixing.
Was hoping for a little trip in the new year but that’s screwed now, will have to head down rugby way and try and avoid the knive waving nutter on the way.

The Ashby Canal is, by a country mile, the most boring canal I've ever been on. By the end I was getting excited if I saw a duck.

Nutter pulled a knife and cut my line!!I clean most of a block. 2 top flats and 2 bottom. I don't clean the nutter on the bottom. She argued with me last month about water dripping on her windows... So I clean the top and do next door.. finish and as I come from the back she walk out with a 10 inch knife and cuts my line... I crapped myself .. I know she's a nutter so I shouted at her and she waved the knife at me .. well that was it. I dialed 999 and took photos.. While I was on with the operator she comes out again and screamed at me.. so i told the operator I would go down the road as I didn't feel safe. Pack up.. drive about 200 yards.. wait for police.. then the nutter drives up .. she's now driving around the island next to me and watching me.. so I filmed her and told my self to move.. I moved another 400 yards and flashed the cops.. So im showing them the video of her in the car... Saying she would smash my face in.. and the photos.. and she drives past.. Cops say to me.. you wait here.. and they scream off.. 1 of the cops comes back and said she's been arrested and takes my statement.. Later found out she didn't have mot or insurance and also criminal damage for my hose. Only thing is the cops said she's a nasty piece off work.. and last time I argued with her she said she would find me and have my van burned and me f upped.. windowcleaningforums.co.uk/topic/25163-nutter-pulled-a-knife-and-cut-my-line/

Saw a moorhen at the weekend at Sutton stop lock, was floating away, upright but dead, looked like it had just given up... never seen that up the ashby, Oxford canal for ya

I like the Ashby, but you've got to be prepared to get off the boat and walk to get the best from it.

The Ashby Canal is, by a country mile, the most boring canal I've ever been on. By the end I was getting excited if I saw a duck. I have to nominate the North Oxford for the most boring award - particularly the stretch from Braunston to Hillmorton
I would describe the Ashby as bland, rather than boring.

Going on froggies post you have got 22 days before it gets really boring 😉 We have enjoyed the two times we have been on the Ashby - mind you our first canal cruise was a short break from Rugby to Snarestone.

If a canal is boring, why not drive along it at night in the dark to liven things up? We have a 4am departure from Gnosall on our fings-to-do list for next week. The Black Monkey of Bridge 39 at night.

You should have tried taking a load from Copsall to really find the Ashby boring. You had to look at the grass on the towpath to see if the boat was actually going forward rather than just moving the mud from bow to stern. Once on the Coventry usually got stuck at gipsy lane bridge. Happy days
