Its very difficult and I think people get depersonalised into ailments to be treated. Its life at any price no matter what. Remember being involved in the care of an elderly woman whose daughter was very famous...this poor woman was skeletal with dreadful bed sores and multiple health issues....they kept her alive for an indecent amount of time. Some cases I've looked after still haunt.

The NHS has some real management problems though, next to the canal new all singing and dancing walk in center was built a few years ago cost millions it huge and was supposed to relieve the A and E at the hospital. Anyway its now nearly closed and the A and E has been enlarged to do the job all the othet stuff it did has closed apart from the emergency dentist and foot operations, which is about 10% of the floor space! Which imbecile authorised this build and why? Me I am pissed off totally with them! because this money could have been so better used and unfortunately this stuff happens all the time. Doctors and nurses generally great, admin and management less than good is my report for them

Well it was built because 4000 people arrived overnight from an other EU country but who cares about that? they should just have extended the hospital in the first place, instead of building on soft sand on a flood plane, which put up the cost to double what it should have been twats total twats

"she revealed that her net pay for two weeks was €1,120.80 (£1,000.24), meaning she takes home an estimated £26,800 a year after tax." That's 112 Euros/day after tax. I'm getting 87/day for driving buses with a lot of live people on board, at 50mph, in the dark, being blinded by the headlights of trucks coming the other way. Oh, and on ice, too. metro.co.uk/2019/01/12/nurse-shares-pay-slip-online-told-salary-average-50000-8338341/

Ok, so it might be a bit controversial but in my opinion the NHS is a huge money pit which needs to be seriously reined in. The NHS spends five times as much on the average 85 year-old compared to the average 30 year-old. (Source www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42572110 ). And as I've pointed out before, this is like putting four brand-new tyres on a car in order to tow it down the scrapyard. My Dad didn't want to carry on in pain and suffering aged 83, he just wanted to go to sleep forever. He was ready for it. The NHS spent fortunes in order to frustrate his wishes, and kept him going for a miserable last three years, near-blind, deaf, doubly-incontinent, confused and frightened with absolutely no quality of life whatsoever. You wouldn't treat a dog the way the NHS treated my Dad. You'd be locked up for cruelty if you did. Lots of things in your post really. You say the NHS is a money pit but if you took just 3% of the wealth from the top 10 richest in the U.K. it would pay for the entire running of the NHS fir a year. i agree that longevity is causing a problem but don’t forget that the quality of life for people in their 70s now is probably similar to being in your 50s 50 years ago. The biggest problem with getting old (and being very young) these days is that the traditional family culture has been broken down by greed. We pay private investers to ‘care’ for our children and elderly because the working generation are ‘too busy’ making money for....well...private investors! In the ‘old days’ the three generations would live in the same household. Granny and grandad would be cared for by mum. The kids would be cared for by mum and the grand parents. Dad was out earning a reasonable salary which paid the bills, maybe a mortgage, food, clothes etc. Many of the the Eastern cultures still retain these family values and that’s probably why many of immigrants are so successfull. The irony is that many of us are sucked into this trap because we are alao ‘private investors’. Regarding the suffering element of your post. Yes, we are probably drawing out the agony of dying by relying too much on science. What is really sad is the number of people who believe that when they retire at 67 they will be heathy enough to enjoy the potential quality of life they had when they were younger. Having lost 3 friends a few years ago below the age of 50, can I just say this philosophy is very misguided. Greed and selfishness has fuckrd us all over. Sadly we are all part of the problem,
